I don't think a one day coyote roundup is going to put a dent in any yote population.

Don't quote this but I think most dogs was a $3,500 first prize and $2,500 second prize.

Then biggest female was $1,500
Biggest male $1,500
Smallest dog $500

That's a hell of a payday and I thought it would've brought a lot more dogs in. With 140 teams, I guess it wasn't from lack of trying. So maybe Phil is onto something for my area.

All I'm saying is a one day hunt isn't going to put a dent in a coyote population. If there was 140 teams then I'm assuming they were hunting at least 120-130 different properties. Taking 1-2 yotes off a property every year doesn't really do much as far as putting a dent in the population.

I am not saying one weekend made the dent. I am saying the competition year after year along with guys honing their skills in between competitions may have their local population reduced. Plenty of guys hunting them even if they weren't in the competition. Look at the dent you and one guy did in your area. Look at the carnage Brian has put to the yotes. Gern and crew take out a bunch in his area yearly, and so does Yotehunter and his buddies.

That's true. Were they allowed using dogs in that competition? If so, Jake and his crew could of got a nice payday!

It was a hunt only condition with no dogs aloud. I think everyone knows you can't compete with that. This was a 24 hour contest though and wasn't limited to any area. I posted the details in another thread that didn't get much interest.

0/2 I went out with my buddy on public land and didn't see or hear anything. then I went out with my dad on our family friends farm and spooked 2 big yotes while we were walking up (we had never been there before and were unsure of where to setup). hoping to go back to the farm next week and see if I can get a shot off on one now that I know where I'm going and have a decent idea where they came from.
