Building a primitive bow

possible, but don't get your hopes up unless you know the fundamentals of selecting and drying wood, bow construction, arrow construction, cordage and string making, and about 100 other things. do your homework before you go injun bow makin'. it would be a fun adventure to attempt to make a survival bow just to see if you could do it. I think I could do it, but I lack the ambition to do it just to see if I can.

high on my bucket list when I retire from "working" is to make/procure enough proper stone tools to make a primitive bow from live tree to a huntable weapon with nothing but hand made stone tools. arrows from shoots, stone points, natural string, etc. a for real primitive bow. no electricity or other modern conveniences. the bows I make now are not "primitive" in the literal sense. even though the materials are all natural, I still use the modern adhesives, power tools, etc.

I hear you. I'm far far FAR from being able to pull that off. A spear would make more sense at this point. That wouldn't be the worst wildlife violation to commit. Shit, it may lead to an elitist card.

Sure you can! Start small and think like a kid. Nothing saying you have to make one that’ll take big game. Adventure and pure joy of doing it would let you know if you wanted to try a “real” one.

Oh dear God. All I could picture in my head while reading this post is Gordo flying out of a tree in a loin clothe with his face covered in mud looking like Encino man. rotflmao

I really don't get why 'spears' are illegal. Feel like I've posted about it before. It'd be a pain in the ass to write those regulations.

I'd like to think I could get just as accurate as my recurve. Close range.

There are some bad ass spears out there if you google it.

Really it all comes down to money. You can kill a deer with a spear as long as you're willing to pay the fine if you get caught with a dead deer and a spear. Look at it as a $200 spear permit. 🤣
