Is anyone else on here at TOO plagued by these annoying squirrel-wannabe's?

Place I live is absolutely loaded with them. They've got holes all around the front walk and landscaping. They stash seeds and nuts in random spots throughout my garage. We even hear them sometimes in the walls of the house (thankfully, we rent lol).

I'm a legitimate hater of feral cats. I've eliminated my fair share from the face of this Earth. In the last month or so, one started hanging around and I was determined to give it a dose of lead poisoning the first chance I got. But one day my wife made an excellent point... She said, "You know, since that cat came around, I don't see near as many chipmunks." I kind of laughed it off... Yea, ok. Then 2 hours later, I'll be damned if that fuggin cat didn't walk past the window with a chipmunk hanging out of its mouth!

So ok... I hate cats... But I also hate chipmunks. I guess until I see a drastic drop in the chipmunk population, Silvester is going to get a free pass. Lol

This morning, however, I watched a chipmunk hanging out under our vehicles like they often do. No cat in sight. My wife was sitting on the couch next to me, breastfeeding our baby boy. She asked if we should set some rat traps. My response was, "I bet I could just shoot that little sumbitch." Naturally my wife thought that was a bad idea, given the close proximity to the vehicles. To me, it was simply more of a challenge!

Up the stairs I went and grabbed my trusty Ruger 10/22 out of the cabinet. Back down the stairs to the sliding glass door. Lucky me... Mr. Chipmunk hadn't moved. I slid the door open ever so slightly, stuck the barrel out the door, settled the red dot on chipmunk center-mass... about 8" behind my front truck tire and 6" in front of the wife's car tire... I squeezed the trigger and the .22 cracked. Mr. Chipmunk flopped as the empty casing rattled across the hardwood floor. [emoji41]

"We don't need no fuggin traps," I smiled and said.

Rat Terrier did its job around here before she got fat and lazy. Way better then any cat I'd ever seen...she used to catch a squirrel every once in a while. She doesn't even really chase them anymore. I'd consider a dog to treat your problem. They are a blast to watch get ripped apart in seconds.

These guys might be having more fun then the dogs...

Haha! Ya we have a bunch of those bastards, and we also have 2 cats that like to kill them. I think they are up to about 10-12 so far this year as they leave them on the porch for me to deal with lol

That's pretty damn cool! I've never been much of a fan of terriers though. They are impressive dogs, given their abilities, but they don't have a great reputation as far as trainability goes. All the ones I've been around have confirmed that thought... Stubborn little assholes. Lol

Little bastards have been getting into the foundation of my old house for years.
I use my single shot, bolt action youth 22 with bird shot.

That's one little nasty bastards I've never seen here on the farm in 26 years. And that's too soon to.

That's a hell of an idea. I need to pick up some .22 bird shot next chance I get!

Our population went way down when the cat showed up. I feed him and let him hang out now. (He has no idea how lucky he really is).

Got a feeling JB is going to the store today....:smiley_coolpeace:

When we first moved to this house there was a big chipmunk problem. I trapped them in a have a heart traps, dumped them in a trash bag and smashed them on some rocks.

Instead of a layer of seeds, I put an old arrow through a water bottle and drilled holes in the top of the bucket to hold the arrow, then smeared a thin layer of peanut butter making a "log roll of death".

Took several dozen mice in a couple weeks in a detached garage. Rebaited the PB every few days. No re setting a trap!

Begs an interesting question: I was told once that if an animal is not listed as having a season or bag limit, it is illegal to kill them. Obviously JB is well versed in the laws and tends to walk on the right side of things, so I assume this is not the case for such a blanket statement. Curious as if anyone else has ever heard that?

Right or wrong I place them in the "rodent and kill on sight list"
