I know this is far fetched but my circle is small and you guys are all I got.

Kody turns 11 on Thursday and he’s a gamer, I am not...hate the damn things honestly. But it’s what he does so I am whiling to buy him a Xbox or PlayStation this year. Just have no clue on what’s better or if this is really a good or bad idea.

Am I retarded here or what?

Which is a better option?

I am not a whole lot of help. Seems some love PS and others love the xBox. Either one will do the job. Support him but also keep prodding him to do some outside stuff every now and again.

I have a PlayStation 3 and a PlayStation 4. You have to pay a yearly fee to use the PlayStation 4. I haven’t played much lately but myself and some guys from work used to get together on Wednesday and Friday nights to play Black ops against each other (there was about ten of us), then when people would drop off, we would form a team of six and go online to play against other people. It was a lot of fun. We would break each other’s balls at work the next day over stuff that happened....getting cussed out by other people or sneaking up behind a coworker and shooting him at close range with a grenade launcher, etc. I would caution that it is addictive, so you should let him have his fun but put limits on it. Make sure he knows upfront that the game should not take away from family time (hunting, fishing, camping, etc.). I would also suggest a wireless headset so that the sounds of the game don’t bother everyone else in the house.

I ended up with the PS4 after doing the pros and cons between that and the Xbox. Both are good and have brand specific games so it really boils down to games he may want to play. I will say that if you get a PS4 I would also add an external hard drive for game storage. This will also negate the need to pay the extra for the 1TB PS4. You can find games that you don't have to play online but you will need to pay close attention on the game box and this goes for either platform. The other nice thing about the PS4 is that you can also use it as a blue ray DVD player.

I used to play video games alot when I was a kid . Atari, Nintendo, Sega, xbox, ah man those were the days. I turned out fine....even went fishing , camping. I've never own PlayStation....dont know why. I've always went with Xbox. It all depends on the controller how it'd be eaiser to play the game with.... some have their own preference.

I went xBox only because it is what we have. Did our homework at the time. Seemed to be the best fit. As a bonus, our internet on the "smart TV" doesn't pick up very well. We can stream Netflix thru the Xbox with no issues. I could be wrong but I think you can play DVD thru it too. I think some of it has to do with what his friends have. If they play online together would it matter if it is XBox or Play station? Can't they play the same online games? If they don't interchange, then whatever his friends have he would want the same so they can play games online together. I'm tarter sauce when it comes to gaming.

I have an XBox One and have no complaints. I don't play much, so it's basically our hub for YouTube, Hulu and Netflix. But I don't have issues on the rare occasion I do play Call of Duty or NCAA Football.

That’s a very good point! You need to find out which console his friends are using. PlayStation and Xbox are not compatible online. They are both good consoles, people go with the one that has a controller that they are familiar with. Whichever one his friends are using will be the one that he needs to go with.
