Legality of Quartering Deer on WNF

With PA now not allowing the import of any deer from out of state, or I should say the import of high risk parts (spine, head, etc), this got me to thinking that instead of dragging the whole deer out, that I may consider just quartering the deer in place. I know on my own property that this isn't an issue, but I was wondering if anyone knows the rules on the WNF? With the rough terrain it may be easier to pack out quarters than bringing the whole deer our anyway.

Good question. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't be allowed.

Only thing I wondered is if leaving the spinal column and rib cage, if this would be considered littering or something like that?

The only time I have ever heard of this being a problem is when its left in close proximity to trails, roads or parking areas.

Send odnr an email and let us know. They are pretty good about responding to questions. I do believe it’s legal as long as you have a conformation number.

In reading the the game check and tagging regs though I don't see anything that addresses that. Quartering a deer isn't processing it for consumption. In reading the regs I don't see any reason that you couldn't quarter it and then when you got to cell service call and get the confirmation #. The game tag has to stay with the animal parts until it is processed anyway.
