One of the shops around Dayton/Troy area sells them I believe. If not mistaken, there might be some in the "back room" at Vance's. I have been told they have another room with some high end pieces and non front display type pieces. I don't know anyone that fits your description for ownership though. I have heard rumors of guys that have some of the illegal type. Never seen them or asked the supposed owners. Don't really care about rumors. Don't have any wants or needs to shoot them. Did that on Uncle Sam's dime.

Yes you can own them

You have to buy them from a dealer with a Class 3 license ( class 4 is for Suppressors )

To be able to buy it
You have to fill out a bunch of paperwork , get your local police cheif to sign off
Then you submitt the paperwork to the BATF
Then pass the required backround check
Go to the police and be fingerprinted

After all this
You pay $200 for a tax stamp

Then you have to agree to have the safe you store it in , inspected
That is when ever they feel like it

And last time I looked
A cheap fully auto firearm was around $10,000.00

If you are still interested , do a search on the BATF web site
I believe you can down load all the forms for free LOL

I checked out the regs. The only thing I didn't see was the part about the safe.

I was just curious on where you can legally buy them. Last night I found a website called www.autoweapons.com. They had a quite a few listed, but holy cow are they expensive. I would like to get a fully auto .22 though. At least I'd be able to afford to shoot that one.

If I get a chance in the next few days I will look as toexactly how it is stated
As I have a copy of the forms and law
As at 1 time I had the paper work signed by the Sherif and was going to buy a suppressed Select fire MP5

But the deal fell through and I never sent the forms into the BATF

From Memory it is something about inspection of the secure storage location

It would make sense that you would have to have a certain kind of safe. The DOD has pretty strict security requirements that require electronic intrusion detection systems. I'd think a civilian who owned one/two guns would be a pretty soft target for someone who wanted to steal a fully auto weapon.
