Thoughts and Prayers will never end for this tragic event. God Bless Everyone Affected.
It may be just me.....But shit like this seemed to start happening at a particular time frame. When I grew up, I got paddled in school (imagine that!), my azz whipped at home, If I gave "excuses" for my actions, I got my azz busted some more "for giving excuses instead of listening to why my azz got busted"......... If I didn't make a particular team, I didn't play. I learned to accept defeat and excell in other things with the time I had on my hands. Nobody seemed to feel sorry for me and therefore I did not lean on an excuse..........I dealt with it! Therefore I did the best I could to make it better in my own situation. Just seems that there are too many laws to sugar-coat the path for kids today. Sorry for the rant, but I TOO am tired of the people feeling sorry for the pieces of shit the politically correct have created. I believe burial is way too good for that mans body. We should count the shell casings and put that many more rounds into that mans body in public.... I would gladly buy them myself. Not intending to offend anyone here.........Just My Opinion. Again, God Bless All Involved.

Fuck all this gun control bullshit.

EVERYTHING in this story has changed, the media hasn't gotten a damn thing right. It's their fault for making these idiots look like heroes. Every stinking "fact" in the case has changed.

So we'll blame guns, his parents, society, the media (who deserves partial credit), his ex-girlfriends, counselor, autism, on and on and on. I'd bet my paycheck that he was sexually abused at a school - or that school, reported it, told his mom - and no one ever did anything. I'd guarantdamntee it.

Don't make politics out of it? Barry did at 4pm. Who does the news turn to? Friggin King Bloomburg.

Wayne LaPierre, if you're reading this, you'd better get your ass in motion...all hell is breaking loose.

I am raising a nephew with behavioral issues. I feel it is critical to keep a continuous eye on them. Counseling is critical. Dealing with mood swings daily, weekly, and monthly is critical. There are a lot of factors here. That said, I am NOT making excuses for this kid. He was screwed up. There were bigger issues going on besides his ahsbergers (if I had to guess.) That said, there is a reason I will NOT teach my nephew to use firearms. I do talk with him frequently about guns. We talk about NOT touching them. We talk about NOT hurting people and animals. We TALK a lot about a LOT of different things. The last thing I will do is teach him how to USE a firearm. I will not have this on my conscience if he should drop to new lows or turn 18 and move out on his own and "lose it".

That said, it is just sickening and sad. It is wrong. I see the devil at work in this murderer's actions. I cannot fathom being one of the parents of the deceased OR of the survivors. I don't want to. If you are in that community, and certainly if your child or family member was in the school that day, the emotions are unfathomable. My heart goes out to those connected to this event.

Did anybody watch our President's speech last night?

I was with him for the first few minutes. He was trying his best to try an provide consoling words when there simply are none. But then he turned the page and with that came the changing tone of the speech. A speech that was being given at an inter faith memorial gathering (too bad the media only showed the President's speech, and not the other prayers and thoughts that were shared by members of the local religious community). His speech then turned from what felt like a unifying moment, to one that will undoubtedly cause more division within our country. His foreshadowing of the fight for our Second Amendment rights that is to come came as no surprise. I kept listening to his words, waiting for it, and waiting for it. Then he delivered as expected. Disgusting.

I'm respectful of his position, but ashamed of him at the same time. Last night was no time to turn political. We all know how anti-gun the President is, along with his administration, and the majority of the left is. Now we're going to see it in action. They will use this horrific event to come after our rights. To attack our freedoms. We're going to see an unprecedented attack on guns like nothing our country has ever experienced. And sadly, a great deal of sheeple incapable of thinking for themselves will not see it as an attack on freedom, but rather a call to action to make things "safer". When that couldn't be farther from the truth. Once you give up a freedom, you never get it back. Once you give the government more power, they will not turn around and give it back. They will look for more freedoms to take, as we've seen over and over again throughout world history.

Get ready folks. I hope to God I'm wrong about all of this, but my gut tells me otherwise.

My wife's words, "oh no. He isn't going there is he? This isn't the time or place." Curran you are not alone. I feel the same. It is monumentally sad he turned a memorial into a political speech. He has destroyed the economy (with help from others in Washington) and now he is going to attempt to turn the people against each other. I have said from the start this President is set out to destroy this country. Now we are witnessing it firsthand. I hate the fact his appearance took away from the families of CT. It sickens me.

I'm so fuckin sick of all the media coverage of these tragic situations. The networks need to pull their heads out of their asses and quit making this shit worse.

Right after this came on the news, I was talking with my brother on the phone, he is a macho tuff guy and we were both in tears.

My daughter teaches elementary school and she believes there needs to be some trained teachers and or administrators who can carry in the schools.

There is no law that can stop a sick mind.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have to endure this unbelievable loss. The President was correct when he said they are not alone.

The more I think about it the more I'm against the idea of teachers in schools with guns.... I think some of them could handle the situation but IMO most couldn't.... You're talking about teachers basically being asked too do what armed police officers sometimes have a hard time doing and they have far more training than what they could possibly put these teachers through....

There has too be some out of the box thinking too be done.... What's the answer I really don't know, but could one of them be too relocate some national gaurd troops? Too much? At this point I really don't know, some would think that's too heavy handed and a mission outside of their scope. But something has too change and the shrinking budgets and the probability of passing levies/taxes too pay for upgrades too beef up security in the older school buildings I just don't see happening.....

I'm a Military guy who thinks in Military answers, sometimes I think it's too easy where others think I want a Military state..... Not really just using the assets at our disposal...... Like I said, just stuff bouncing around in my head.....

A simple security gaurd in the school would do a lot. He needs to be armed. But concealed. He needs to have a k9 there for drug purposes. You wouldn't believe the drugs in the schools when I went, they were every where. It was something that when we were younger only the" weird" kids would do it but as we got older even the "cool" (piece of shits) we're thinking it was the cool thing to do. How about a medal detector at the door. Although i don't think it's practical because there are so many entrances.

I want teachers armed. It doesn't need to be all of them, just a handful. Preferably ex-military, and male. Does that sound sexist? I don't care. If you have a barn full of sheep, and wolves start showing up, you need sheep-dogs! The bad guys with guns don't stop shooting until the good guys with guns show up. I want the good guys with guns already there. I'd have no issue with Cotty carrying a gun in my kid's classroom. Cancealed of course, with several more job-appropriate weapons at his disposal. No one needs to know who the sheep dogs are, as they would be the first targets in an attack. Hide in plain sight, and limit the damage as best they can.

There is where the problem is.... Mike can answer this better than me but go too an average school and see the female too male ratio on teachers then ask how many have been in the Military...... Maybe les then 10% total?????

There are plenty of women who are better shots than their husbands/boy friends...regardless of sex, I would like to see some be trained and armed.

I'd have no issue with my wife, her brother (Alphamax) and others I know carrying in their school. I wish they could in a bad way.

Imagine if that principal were armed and could have shot rather than confronting the shooter unarmed.

Ex-military individuals are hard to find. However, we do have a former member of the military teaching 5th grade at one of our elementary schools (he's one of Klay's teachers this year) and our principal in my building is a former sharp shooter in the military. So, there are a few individuals who are more than qualified to handle a gun.

Of course, those of us who hunt would be comfrotable as well. In my building there is one other teacher who hunts once in awhile but is an avid target shooter.

J brought up a good point about putting teachers in a position that cops don't even want to be in. I understand this view, but I believe we should have the ability to protect ourselves and the students we are trusted with. Many of these kids are like my own children (some I'd like to throw out the window... Lol). If we were ever in a hostile situation and I survived, I'm not sure I could live with the fact that I was unable to help these children.

There is no way I think all staff should be armed. We have some teachers, just like any other school, that I question their sanity sometimes. But, we also have some in every building that, with the proper training and mandated refresher programs, could possibly diffuse a situation before it begins or escalates like the ones we have seen in the past.

To answer the other question about male/female ratio, obviously the elementary schools have far more females than males. We have 3 elementary schools in our district and I believe (off the top of my head) there are only 3 males involved, one in each building. My thoughts are, find out who is interested in carrying and do a thorough screening to see who could qualify.

In our middle school we have 6 males and I would arm 4 of them without hesitation. Obviously the former sharp shooting principal heads the list, myself, the assistant principal who is about 6'4" and 250 lbs, and the otehr teacher I mentioned that shoots target.

In the high school we have about 8 males and I know 3 of them are avid hunters and one of the others shoots frequently.

Something needs done because most schools cannot afford security and the state or national government can't afford it either. We had a resource officer in our district. ONE officer for the whole district which includes 5 buildings and alot of square miles to cover. His position was cut due to funding. So, we have not one single individual that is armed in our entire district. We are helpless.

I'm not sure about this, J. Police officers go through a lot of training to learn/know when to use their weapons and when not to. In the case of a school shooter, I would think instinct would kick in as survival is at the very core of our existence.

I can see the point of
Preferably ex-military, and male.
because when you have time to think things through, women may back out, but again, I think all circumstances change when it becomes a matter of life or death.

However, most people wouldn't guess that it is a female teacher that has the weapon and that could be a good thing.

I do believe that if it was common public knowledge that school personnel does carry, I believe that alone would cut down on a lot of this. I also believe that no one needs to know who does and who doesn't carry, just that the school allows it in general.

J- I was speaking of what would be ideal to me. Doesn't mean it's practical. I'd be fine if they weren't ex-military, and they don't have to be male. They would need some training, like a CCW class with emphasis on by-stander safety. I'm telling you, for me personally, I'd be much happier if the two female janitors at my son's school and the principal were carrying. Both of those women are deer hunters, and I'd prefer some security for those kids than none!
