Loud thunder and rain woke me up around 3am. It was still raining when I got up at 5.

Good news is, I've been wondering if my straw bales were getting soaked enough for planting this weekend. I don't think that is a concern any longer.

Talked to a farmer last year, and he said that now a days, if its only knee high by the 4th that's bad. He was saying how different it is now a days...

Last year proved it to me. It was pure drought around here all summer and guys were still around 190 bushels to the acre. The plethora of seed types now pretty much eliminate any weather fugging it up too bad

They also ensure Monsanto has a stranglehold on our farmers. Truly the most evil corporation of all time and few realize the true depths of their grip.

Absolutely. Before long you will not even be able to find a seed that does not have a patent on it and you don't pay through the nose for. It's crazy to think that we allow private corporations to gain a monopoly on the seed that grows our food. Holdback seed to plant next year has all but been eliminated. Even if you wanted to you can't do it. If Your neighbor planted Roundup ready corn next to your field and his corn Inadvertently pollinates your corn, you cannot hold back that corn to replant. Patent infringement and Monsanto is going to sue your ass.

I can certainly see how a farmer could say that. But remember last year all the guys that planted early and then got flooded and frosted out? The good ole boys that plant on the same day granddaddy planted, they were just fine. I don't see the point in finishing corn before November - you're only going to pay more in propane or gas at the dryer.

That said, saw some corn in Eastern PA this past weekend that was easily 6 feet tall and in beautiful shape!

Look up suicide rates and statistics in India. Most of which tied to Monsanto. Pure evil.

It's BS, the suicide rate was high in India well before Monsanto showed up. India is a country in transition, their economy is changing from Ag to industrial, not unlike our country went through the first 1/2 of the 20th century.

No, dont you know the companies engaged in fracking are the most evil. Seriously, The same folks spreading misinformation on the petroleum industry are the same folks attacking Monsanto.

If you're not for gas because it's evil, than coal is the devil. So that only leaves solar and wind. Biomass I suppose...

I'm not getting Monsanto information from leftist "anti-progress" sources. And if oil and gas companies are so bad, why did you sign a lease?

The funny thing is Most of Monsanto's bs is banned in other countries. Bring one of those seeds near Europe and its federal pound you in the ass prison time.

With our power outage forecasted being off for 36 hours I had to take yesterday afternoon off and head to Lowes to buy an unexpected generator.

We did throw everything away in our refrigerator but were able to save the contents in my 3 freezers.

I ended up buying a Generac GP5500 at $ 649.00 and a 100 foot 10 gauge extension cord for $ 139.00. I did buy a 4 year extended warranty plan for another $ 140.00.

So at the end of the day I spent $ 1,000 to save $ 1,000 worth of food. A guess you call that break even.

I'm surprised you didn't install a backup generator with the new place.

That would run about $ 8k with a cement pad and propane tank. It's part of my long term plan but the deck comes first, pole barn will probably be next, then concrete, then generator. I need about $ 50k to finish my projects.

What's $50K right?!? rotflmao

I'd be happy with $5K to finish my place and get it ready for when the market recovers. From a sellers standpoint that is...
