Picked up my Xbow yesterday and shot four bolts. Four in the center kill! Damned those things are easy!

Nice!

I'm still waiting to get my new one assembled. I bought the crank cocking device to go with it, and am not going to attempt it myself! Sure am itching to shoot it though!

Spent the AM on the golf course. Played well on the front and had to sit out the back. I have a serious lower back/hip issue right now and swinging a club kills! Still a great way to spend the morning!

I got me one of those thingies too girl. I pull that 150# with the rope a couple of times and I'm worn out. Works very nicely!

Those sure are slick, aren't they?

I can't cock any crossbow without one. I just don't have the strength or the length (LOL). Once a dealer tried to say that if I sat down, then tried laying back while pulling up on the string, I'd be able to do it.
Back then, I did hunt in trees, so my first thought was "Sure, I'm gonna be doing all that in a tree stand."

I couldn't hunt unless someone else was around to cock my bow for me, and even then, I only got one shot, hit or miss, and my hunt was over.

Whoever came out with those "fishing pole reel" cockers (that's I how describe them to people) was a God-send!

I can't wait to shoot my new bow, but my SIL is busy this weekend, so I guess it will be another week before he can get it to his archery guy to set it all up for me.

Looking good Tom. Well done.

Been a decent weekend. Sold some tree stands at the show. Met some old and new friends. Didn't buy anything but 4 mums for my wife and a bit of greasy food. Life is good.

Xbowgirl...

Pics when you have a sec.

Still delivering. Only up to number 6 and am expecting 10 to 12. I think she just finished the one horn. So far, ALL black (that surprised me!) and only one male. We'll see what the other side brings!

Damn Tom, I'm jealous buddy! Well done!!!

I spent the morning with my little girl and got a lot done around the house. Now I'm off to shoot some trap, then to the rodeo at the local fair. It's been a damn good weekend so far!!!

I really wasn't sure where to post this, be it in the dump thread or the TOO good thread and decided it did belong here.

I had my first litter of goldendoodles delivered last night. I knew all day yesterday that she was in the early stages of labor and waited and waited and waited for her to finally start pushing.

The first pup was born at 2 this morning. There were 7 pups by 7:30 and Joy seemed great. She got up, went to the bathroom, ate a little bit, then resumed pushing at 8:45. By 9:30, I knew there was a problem as she was pushing but nothing was happening. I started trying to frantically reach my son, Eric, as I needed to get her to the vet and needed help getting her into a car, as the Santa Fe is too high for her to jump into while pregnant, and I can't lift her.

I did speak to the vet and had plans to meet him at 11:00 and in the meantime, tried walking her in the yard hoping it would help her push that pup out. I knew that by 11:00, not only would that pup be dead, but that possibly any other pups would be dead also.

I don't x-ray my dogs (controversy over the safety of them, etc., so I don't risk it unless an emergency arises) and was guessing her to be carrying between 10 and 12 as she has had a litter of 12 in the past.

When we met my vet, he ran an x-ray and said there were 2 pups still inside her, possibly 3. The stuck pup could not be reached manually to help pull it out, so that left the decision of whether to give oxytocin and hope that did the trick, or go ahead with a c-section.

I ended up choosing the c-section for her.

There were only 2 pups still inside. The first one (which was the stuck one) actually was delivered alive, but was too weak from all the hours of pushing and it died. The last one lived.

We are back home now and since Joy can not do steps for a couple of weeks, etc., she will be sleeping in my bedroom. She does have milk so they don't need bottle-fed (Thank you, God) and though she is still a bit groggy from the surgery, she is doing great as well as the surviving 8 puppies.

To my surprise, all puppies were black. I was expecting a mix of some black and some Golden, but I guess the parents decided otherwise! LOL I have 6 females and 2 males, although I only did "quick checks" when they were born and with 36 hours of no sleep, I'll re-check them later to make sure!

I am thankful and grateful that only one pup was lost and that Joy is fine. Though I love breeding dogs and try my damnedest to do a good job with all of it, it is these times that I find heartbreaking.

I am posting the picture I snapped this morning when only 5 pups had been born at that time, as I am TOO tired and TOO wore out to take any more right now. I just really need some sleep!

All in all, I'm still pleased with the litter and am looking forward to seeing the lil bugers grow up!
