I just got back from Jefferson Co. I hunted Friday through Sunday. I saw two deer all weekend, a button buck and a big doe.
They vanished.

Actually they were up all night and slept all day. Damn, full moon.

I think I'm going to small game hunt on the weekends with a full moon. Deer hunting those weekends are a waste of my time.

I will listen to Alsheimer from here on out. I got impatient and forsake his 30 years of research. Or I may always take the third week of November off...

I was in Ohio 11/4-11/15. My buddy and I saw very little sign of the rut. Even the amount of rubs and scrapes were less than we've seen in the previous two seasons. Sounds like things are heating up this week just like Alsheimer said. Even here in NH things are heating up this week. I think I'm going to buy his calendar for 2014. I'm not going to treat it like it's the gospel on when to hunt but I will at least take it in to account when planning my Ohio hunt. We are considering going out for weeks 2 & 3 of November next year instead of weeks 1 & 2.

This is the week, been hearing from several buddies that the big bucks are on their feet and they are having their best sightings all year, wish I was hunting too.

Been pretty slow out lately but my buddy shot a nice buck yesterday at 2pm.Him and several bucks were in a standing cornfield with a hot doe.Grossd 162.I think the rest of this week and thanksgiving week could be really good for the big boys.

I think we're in lock down here in my neck of the woods. I've seen two small bucks this morning. They're the only thing I've seen in 4 sits...this flat out sucks. I did hear a little chasing across holler from me but too thick to see.

3 more days until i get to hunt again. Chasing, breeding was wrapping up on my last few sits. Hoping to see big boys cruising again and checking scrapes/seeking when I hit the woods next.

Been a different year for sure. Hunting a lot, not seeing rut. Have noticed past 2 days road kill bucks increasing Athens>Columbus. Deer out and about at noon today, bucks and does. I've gotten same report from 2 other hunters this am. Hoping rut just hitting late...

2 Monster Bucks locked on does sighted around licking in the last 48 hrs. Seen a descent 8 today with a doe pinned down in the corner of a fence. He stood over her for over 4 hrs. I'd say the breedin' part is on.

I'm a firm believer the true giants tend to die in the second half of November. While there is nothing more exciting than the first couple of weeks of November, the second half is king for the truly rare ones. My buddy Andy helped to prove that point tonight. When I first saw the summer trail cam pics, I thought the thing would be close to 200 typical. I have no idea what the thing scores, I don't have that many fingers and didn't take time to do any math tonight...but it's a giant! G2- over 14", G3's - 12ish. Mass is unreal. Just a giant! It aint over fellas. Get yourself in a tree!

Sorry I didn't get any better pics, but here's what I snapped.

Spent 8 hours strapped to the same tree today an saw no sign of rut. Heard about 10-15 seconds of chasing at last light. Once again, I missed the rut. I haven't seen good chasing in years...
