Shot a small doe. Not real sure how good of a shot it was at this point. Brown hair on the ground and I thought I saw her crash but I'm not sure. No blood right where I shot her but I'm going to warm up and go out with the flashlight here in a few. Didn't see my buck.

Not a single drop of blood. That's the first time I ever hit a deer and didn't recover it. NOT a good hunt. With this wind and snow coming I'll never find her. Hoping she'll show up on camera and then I'll try to make some time to go finish her off. Doubt I'll ever find the arrow either with all that snow. Dammit.

I'm pretty bummed out but I'll get over it. Plenty of them get hit by cars or shot and never recovered, eaten by yotes etc. Part of the game but it does suck.

I'm already scheming ways to get back out a time or two before the end of the season, work can wait lol. Later this week and this weekend might be possible if the weather cooperates. I'm going to set the camera up over the corn pile in the morning too and see if an injured doe shows up over these next few cold days. If so I'll finish her off if possible. I hate the thought of an injured deer limping around because of my mess up/crappy marksmanship.

I snuck out this morning and set the camera up over the corn. I kind of doubt they will be back during daylight right at that spot due to yesterday's events but with this cold weather maybe so. I plan on giving it at least a few days before I try to go back and hunt but I want to see if that doe comes back or not and see if the camera will maybe show me where I hit her and see if she looks injured or not.

With these temps the deer will be forced to move. I wouldn't wait a few days, hell there's only a few days left!

Point taken for sure! I wasn't sure if they were going to come back at all for a few days but corn must be like crack to them this time of year. I can see the pile from my back window and watched it from 5:30-dark. They must have been just inside the woods until dark. 5 minutes after legal shooting light they started coming out and went straight to the corn. I don't think hunting directly over the pile will be productive now (that's where I was last night) but I do have a spot just inside the woods with good access so that's where I'll be. Still pretty busy with work but I will make time for it the last few days of the season.

This is a bad picture but it is so cold out right now I just had a buck out in the open at my corn pile at 10:15am. I'm off work today because of this weather but I'm not quite crazy enough to go out there and sit just hoping he comes back. Was awesome to see him from the window though and hopefully the trail cam got a better picture of him. This is about 100 yards from my back window, he stayed for about a minute and trotted off. 30x zoom, would've been a great photo if not for the tree branches in the way.

I'm pretty sure I have to go hunting tonight. Photo does not do him justice. I don't know anything about scoring deer but when he lifted his head up to walk away I stopped breathing for a second.

Yep! Get out there man.

Nobody bumbled up a spot more than my boy and I did the last few days with near shot ops and running deer off. They're hungry enough to keep coming back to the corn. You'll see action. So get your butt out there! Lol

I will believe me! I want to run out there right now and it's hard to stay inside and stay calm but I think I'm going to have the best chance about the last 2 hours of dark so that's when I'm going. I don't know if I can make it much more than that as cold as it is and I'd hate to sit out there and have to come in early and miss all the action. About an hour after I took that picture I was at Walmart buying hand warmers and shot my crossbow a few times to make sure it was still sighted in. Dead on at 25 yards and the wind is perfect for a sit. I think 2 hours is about my max with the clothes I have to hunt in so I'll be there from about 3:45-dark.

I am excited. I loved how he strolled in there without looking paranoid, took a few bites and then trotted off slowly back to where he came from. He kind of glanced around for a second and then put his face in the corn and left it down for almost a minute. He looked more like he was jogging back to stay warm than running because he got spooked. This might be the day I finally get a shot at a good buck this year after all these weeks of hunting and close calls.
