No I don't mind. It depends a little on what services you want as it's kind of a pick and choose sort of thing. The Roku is a one time purchase of around $90 and that's your gateway device to the streaming world. After that, you can go with whatever free stuff you can find on Roku or you can subscribe to paid streaming stuff. There are like 2000 different streaming services out there you can get through the Roku. Some are free, some aren't, some suck, some don't. Netflix and Hulu are a couple of the most popluar paid ones.

So right now we pay $9 a month for Netflix & $13 for commercial free Hulu.

We also subscribe to Amazon prime (mainly for the two day shipping you get with it). That's a yearly fee of $105 after tax, but honestly Netflix and Hulu are better. Like I said, we do it for the faster shipping but the streaming comes with it, so...

Add an antenna on top of that if you want local over-the-air stuff for your one time cost of around $40 or $50.

So bottom line, lets say you do an antenna, Hulu and Netflix and a Roku - you're looking at around 50+90=$140 one time setup and then $22 a month.

Switched our land line phone to Verizon digital phone. Something like $20-30/mo versus $65. Throwing it out there if that helps you any. It is an option.

Yes, you need an internet connection.

Incidentally, we use Vonage for our phone service through that same internet connection and that runs $17 a month. Gotta watch them, though - they are like the cable company & try to jack up the price after the intro period. A cancellation threat does the trick there.

Damn... I have the worst internet! Can't even watch YouTube most of the time.

I work for the cable company lol. I know, I'm a dick lol.

If your guys bills get over $124 go into the local office and complain about it. Most times they will get you back to $124 or less a month. If that doesn't work disconnect it from your name and then have your wife/girlfriend put it in their name as a new customer and get the triple play for $89

If a person can get a good Internet connection you can add Netflix, hulu, or a number of other streaming video and get what you have on cable.

Honestly, if I didn't work for them and get the perks I wouldn't have it. What people don't understand is the majority of the cost is given to the companies like cbs,nbc,tnt, ect. The cable company also adds in fees to maintain the lines and deliver the content. But it's mostly the broadcasting companies that laugh all the way to the bank.

There are some shows I don't get to see now, but when I think about how I'm saving something like $1000 a year I get over it pretty quick.

The one thing the cable company still has going for it is simplicity. They take care of all the details - hookup, all the equipment you need, etc. With the streaming route, you have to kinda navigate the waters yourself a bit and that's a little overwhelming / intimidating at first.

Haven't had any type of of feeds into our house for about 12 years now. Best decision we've ever made. The only thing I miss is being able to catch certain games that I want to watch. Kids where never glued to the TV getting brainwashed by all junk that's on there anyways.
