I took a man out this morning. First time we have hunted together, had a good time. There is no way I would have rolled out of bed to chase turkeys on a rainy, windy day like today if we had not already made plans. He admitted the same. Anyway, we went. After walking a mile or so, we got one gobbling. I'm fairly familiar with this piece of ground and had a good idea where the bird would wind up. Luckily, I was right. We circled, made a call and he gobbled less than 100 yards from us. We got set up only to have a hen lead him off. So, we circled again as I figured they were heading down into bottomland fields. I was right, but we walked right up to within 20 yards before seeing them. He gone. Covered more ground but couldn't get anymore to gobble. Heck when we got back to my house we had a hard time getting Mason's pet turkey to gobble, and he will usually gobble at a fart! Some days they just don't want to play. Even at that, it was a good time, no hunters or turkeys were hurt. Good morning.

It is a mess out there for sure! I took a good walking stick this morning since I wasn't packing a gun. That thing saved me from sliding off the hill more than once. Nasty weather, and it is supposed to rain again tomorrow. In fact, the lake is up so high that I'm not sure we will be able to take our normal route into the area we want to hunt tomorrow.

Didn't some guys have trucks under water from the last storm? I don't imagine you can even use any boat launches.

I don't know about the last storm. I know people have died by turning off of 753 and driving right into the lake where there is normally a road to the ramp. It get's really, really high down there if they are not turning water loose.

We had a gobbler in twice. Hens took him both times. We are set up on him again. He is the only gobble we have heard today.

Out with my BIL this morning. Only heard two gobbles all morning and that was before 6:45. Heard one shotgun blast so far as well that sounded like it was within 1/2 a mile away.

We had in just one lone Jake in two different times but it was same bird both times. He flattened the Jake decoy the first time in at 8:00 and also tried mounting on of the hen decoys afterwards. Got great footage of both. He's still around the dekes as I type this. Lol

Well came out to another farm at 10:30 and immediately heard a gobble. Spotted him in the field about 80 yards away. Worked 2 birds for a little bit til quiting time. Still have one gobbling behind me.
