J.... Do you remember one on the first pushes against hunting, a show called "The Guns Of Autumn??? I believe it aired in 1975... Most of these young bucks were still swimming up stream...

It’s incremental. Every “minor” or “common sense” in law makes it slightly harder to own or use firearms. Over time more and more people either can’t own guns or find laws about owning guns confusing or finding a place to shoot difficult or expensive. And it isn’t just laws. When I was in school the library had Sports Afield and Outdoor Life magazines and books about shooting and hunting. I’m sure those are censored in most schools. It wasn’t unusual to see guns being shot for fun or hunting on TV shows.

There is a concerted effort to stigmatize private gun ownership. Gradually as more and more people aren’t gun owners or they don’t have gun owning friends and family it’s easier to get them to agree with stricter laws.
Gun ownership is exploding.

The number of guns, yes. Number of households, no.

True but when every survey points to the same thing it is going to be close. Pew, Gallup, Rasmussen all have the same results within 2%.

I don't buy it either. Just the gun market for women alone tells me there are more people interested in firearm ownership.

not sure I buy that either, but it in my mind how these studies actually define "household" could make a huge difference in the statistics they generate. if they include every government subsidized one bedroom shithole in every inner city ghetto in this country, then maybe. in my orbit, which admittedly is not really large, there are more households that now own and shoot guns than there were 10 years ago. and I influenced some of them. still, I'm not denying the big picture here or the direction we are slowly headed, but we are a long way from that.
