Not sure how I could have that many birds gobbling around me and not get on one. Just couldn’t get anywhere I needed to be because there were so many. One shot from a road hunter at 7:00 and not another gobble.

Congrats on the bearded hen Brock!

And congrats on your bird Mike! Road hunters suck! Have you ever heard this many birds as we've had this year? It's unreal. More birds than I can ever remember in my six years of hunting!

It’s reminding me of the early 2000s. I probably did the only thing I could have today to not get a bird or even close. There were lots of options. On our place it’s been hit and miss though. One day they are there the next couple they are not.

I was thinking the same thing. Early 2000 is the only year close to what I have seen since I've been hunting! Same with the birds there one day and not next. Fortunately we were there most days and got lucky but I scouted a bunch of mornings leading up to youth season and it was hit or miss. One morning I counted 12-14 different gobblers with some being jakes...I know from experience that this year is "special" and I've enjoyed every day we have gone out!

Likely because season came in when it should weather wise. The weather we had for the opening week was typically the weather we have a couple weeks before season opens. This year, however, the weather had a couple cold snaps and maintained relatively low temps right up until season. Hell it snowed here about a week before season and I've seen pictures of guys that killed them in snow in Ky. Alex is typically mowing grass for two weeks prior to opening day, this year he started mowing on opening day. The birds were not henned up and still in groups of double and triple toms. They usually bust up and hen up bad the week before season, they just started doing that here Sunday and Monday a full week and a half late. I have always thought that if Ohio opened turkey season a week or two earlier we would absolutely slay them. Guess the proofs in the pudding.

We're covered up in jakes. Called a group of 4 in opening day. The day I shot mine he was rooster with another long beard and two jakes with another jake 100 yards away.

I've worked 3 16 hours days this week so I'm taking a couple hours tommorow morning and going to my dad's to try to kill that bird that's gave us the slip. Think I'm just gonna set up in the center of the corn field and lay down behind my strutter and see what happens.
