Good. Get rid of all of it. It would force people to learn actual woodsmanship and deer behavior. God forbid we can't just put out a pile of corn and let the deer come to us. Lol. Doesn't matter if they make it illegal anyways, cuz we all know that making drugs illegal got rid of that issue...[emoji849]
That includes banning food plots too right?
Hahaha. I knew someone was going after the bait on this one. (See what I did there) Lol. If they banned everything, including food plots, tomorrow I wouldn't shed a tear. I know there is a big debate between whether having a food plot is baiting and I'll weigh in on my opinion.
Yes. In the true sense of what it is, we are planting food, for deer, that wasn't there before. So yeah, it is drawing deer to a new area because of food is changing deer movement patterns in some cases. BUT, unlike baiting, there are immense herd health and habitat improvement benefits of planting a food plot.
The fued between food plots and baiting is completely useless anyways. If want true deer hunting, without allowing hunters any food source advantages, then you'd have to make it illegal to hunt over or near farm fields which is nearly all of the Midwest, south, northwest... So it's not even worth the fight.
I understand some people feel they "need" to bait because of a multitude of reasons but, eliminating the dumping of corn & commercial attractants would just make the hunting community better IMO. Make hunters learn how to read deer sign, the woods and hunt smarter. I know too many "hunters" who go out and dump 100# of corn a week, sit over it and smoke deer. Are they killing mature deer? Mostly not, but still, putting that bait down does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for the deer herd. A huge part of our hunting heritage is respect for the game we pursue. That includes helping improve the health and habitat of the quarry we follow.
That's my soapbox. Lol. Good night Merica.
