Paid the price yesterday for a low shot at 30 yards. The arrow glanced off the upper-inside part of the front leg, low of the vitals, and the glancing blow snapped the back 1/4 of the arrow in front of the wrap. Oh well, it was from my original 3-pack of test arrows.

My 5-arrow groups were 4-arrow groups the rest of the night. Shot a lot better after that. This was my last 20-ish yard group.

Getting very consistent, looking forward too this upcoming season and your journey through it....

Consistency is coming from 20 and in. I'm still spraying them a bit past that. You can obviously see the marks on the target. No ass hits...yet. I've noticed a lot of my misses seem to go high, and you can see on the 3D that there are several marks high of vitals.

I'm going to try and get back into it this year. The only reason I didn't hunt with mine last year was because I just didn't have the time to practice like I used to. Back in the day I'd practice during lunch or after work. I can't shoot during lunch anymore and by the time I get home from work its late. That said, and I have to be honest, I just wasn't committed to it like I used to be. I'll try again this year. Hopefully I'll get bit by the trad bug again.

One thing I did a lot was stump shooting. You don't need to literally shoot a stump, but if you shoot a leave, pine cone, soda can (sorry pop can), it'll really help with distance judging. It will also build your confidence when shooting at an animal too.

Do you recommend shooting judo points or blunt tips when "stump" shooting? I have few judo points but it seems like they get beat up pretty easily.

I've been using the Ace Hex blunts. My only words of advice on stumping is be sure you know what you're shooting at (that it's soft and rotten if it's a log/tree/stump). My arrow fatality while stump shooting was picking a downed log that looked rotten but wasn't so soft.

I bought a cheap tab when I first started shooting to see if I liked that or wanted to stick with a glove. I didn't like the tab, but little did I know until watching a video online that you can/should trim them to fit better. I took some time Saturday testing and slicing excess leather off my cheapo tab and man I wish I knew that info back in December. Once I got the excess leather trimmed off, I loved it. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it appropriately but I have better feel for my anchor with my finger tips exposed. I anchor the tip of my middle finger in the corner of my mouth. The release also feels cleaner with the tab vs the glove. Before, I felt like the tab was sort of smacking me in the cheek/lip on every release. It must have been the excess leather contacting me as I released the string, if that makes sense.

It took a bit of adjusting to the tab, but so far, I like it.

I bought a Black Widow.

Tab.

Yea, my father in law didn't like that joke, either. It feels like a significant improvement over the cheapo $7 tab I was shooting. I've only shot it for 45 minutes or so but I love it thus far. I like 5 arrow groups I can practically cover with a tab.

Thats the one i use, i switched to a safari tuff leather tab but hated it,very inconsistent on my shots.
Went back to my widow calf hair tab, a lot smoother release.
Also switched out the velcro tab with some cord and a barrel lock...much better.

I haven't been bothered yet by the velcro, but that may change once I get more experience with it.

your attachment to that piece of scrap leather is unhealthy. post a picture of it so these boys might understand my contempt for your precious.
Does it work? Do I owe money on it? Has it bit me? These are the questions to be asked before wasting money on newer or better. I’ve probably owned several dozen tabs over my lifetime and can honestly say I’ve never owned one that helped me shoot better. Some have made me shoot worse, but never better.

lol! I didn't mean to imply that you need a better one. that was a perfectly good tab 150,000 shots ago.:D
no, none of that. you simply wore it out, and that is commendable, but you need to move on. you could get another one just like it. I mean, what better excuse to shoot more than breaking in a new tab before the next shoot?
