This thing is an absolute dart slinger. Took the Vortex off my AR, which means daddy gets a new scope for his AR in due time! I can see me toting this thing around some public ground to "run and gun" style hunting. Until then, it's ready for K to start doing some damage.

HA. I'm a Stephen Covey guy and that's the definition of win-win if there every was one! The more I shoot my AR, the more I wish I'd have put a "real" scope on it. The Strikefire will be great on most weapons the kids end up shooting and it's great for "spray 'n pray" shooting with the AR, but I need some accuracy from it and the red dot is not the right tool for the job. It will be for the crossbow and a .410, so it'll get good use.

I had to get one of the catalytic converters replaced on my truck Saturday and it just so happens the best exhaust guy in the area has a shop 1/2 mile down from the farm. I dropped everything off at the farm, dropped my truck off, walked back and spent 3 hours hanging stands and cams, plus a little trail maintenance while he remedied my cat issues. (Dealer wanted $900 and he charged me $172. Truck runs like a champ now...)

I decided to try something new and took a few videos for those who care to watch. It might be more helpful than a bunch of pictures and written narrative. The first video was taken at the Corner Pocket. As you can see in the video, that food plot is unruly right now. I'm going to get it mowed down in the next week or so, or at least I'll try to if this rain stops! I got the stand shifted and feel much better about my concealment going into this season. When we plant this in the fall, I'll record a video that shows the view from the stand. Overall, it was a good exercise in continuous improvement.

The second video was taken at what I feel may be the best set I've hung to date on the farm. I really took my time thinking through this set. I took 45 minutes to walk a 30, then a 100-yard circle around the stand taking in all the variables and related them to past experience. The 3 bucks I saw last year were all in range of this tree. I'll be exposed as there was no perfect tree, but I hung it on the backside of the tree and tucked it in amongst several branches. If I get nailed here, I'll have to move closer to the field, or hang further towards the bottom. First good N wind we get after 10/25, I'll be in this set. Especially if the white oaks produce this year.

Looks good buddy. I'll take the right tree over a good tree any day of the week. If I'm in the right spot, I don't care if I'm a bit exposed. Mr Big only has to come through that one time.
