Popped the cherry on virgin replacement vitals. You could say that purchase was overdue.

Also laid out the trap for opening day yesterday. My modified (raised on a frame) ground blind is up, mildly brushed in, 15 yard shot to the feeder. I have no shame. I did not brush it in that much, partly because the blind sucks and doesn't have brush loops and partly because it's up 4 weeks before the opener, so they should have time to get used to it. I had the blind up on a different section of the property last fall with a camera near it, not brushed in at all, and in short order they were walking right by it. I've never had any issue getting busted in a tree stand there early in the season, but once the leaves are off I always felt very exposed.

Late last week I shot several quartering away groups.

I listened to Joel Turner on Kifarucast and he kept mentioning speaking or saying something in your head once you reach full draw to keep you mentally in the shot. I have to force myself to do it or it's a step I will skip. Damn that man knows his shit.

After three days away on a family trip, I knocked some rust off last night and had some arrow retrieval assistance.

Been shooting my broadheads alot at the target's out of the stand.
Have been shooting really good...just waiting on season to get here and see what buck might trip my trigger.lol
Also have the broadheads sharpened up real nice.

I got my heads all sharpened over the weekend, too. The first doe I get in range is in harm's way.

I'm feeling pretty good about shooting lately, good timing for the opener. I've been able to identify that by far my biggest problem (I think) is if I rush through my shot process. My bad shots always seem to come when I go quickly. Joel Turner advocates for saying something mentally after hitting anchor to get through that "critical second" and maintain control. I'm saying, appropriately, "Slow down." Good things happen when I stick to the script.

My first 6 arrows from 18 yards yesterday

Maybe my best 30 yard group

I try to end each shooting session with one arrow. Make it count.

Also, as you can tell, the fletchings on my practice arrows are getting quite rough. I ordered feathers and borrowed a jig from my father in law, so tomorrow night, my practice squad is getting new feathers. Long overdue.
