Wathen's single barrel. Also, many Trapist Ales are quite good. Scotch isn't a favorite of mine. Tastes like peat moss, or burned wood.

So after seeing some responses about proper 12, I grabbed a bottle....

.... meh...

Its young, blended Irish whisky. Exactly what youd expect. I dont dislike it, I'll probably keep a bottle around. But there's nothing that Jumps out of the glass and makes me say "wow!" I have to say I expected something bolder from connor McGregor. Vanilla, shortbread cookie, a little touch of citrus, followed by a little bit of oak from the bourbon barrel.
So as I was putting the bottle in the liquor cabinet, as my hand came out, my fingers brushed against another bottle and instinctively grabbed it. Next thing I knew I had a neat pour of highland park 12 Vikings honor. Single malt, lightly peated, caramel, brown sugar, honey.... then a hit of sourdough bread...

Good stuff

Hmmm. Now you got me thinking about that proper 12. I'll prolly wait around to try the sample from somewhere and see what I think about it.

Not a fan of Scotch but I love bourbon. Just my opinion...a great under $20 bottle is Old Grand Dad Bonded. Under $30...Eagle Rare. Best “high end” I’ve had is Blantons. If I could only have one type for the rest of time it would probably be Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. I really like a lot of the stuff Wild Turkey does, especially their Russell’s Reserve stuff. Here’s the current lineup at the house along with the constant decanter of Woodford Reserve (not pictured) lol...

I was always a big fan of Knob Creek and Bookers. I don’t drink the stuff anymore though. Some of y’all have seen my legs go away around the campfire. Never did learn how to control myself with the hard stuff.

Does anyone have a consistent source for Blanton’s? I can never find it at the local Kroger’s or Bassetts.

Tipmoose also mentioned Angels Envy... another one I have been trying to get my hands on. Found a place that says they get a couple cases once a month. Also found out they get deliveries on mondays. Guess where i pop in on mondays on my way home.
