Alright fellas, as many others have voice, I to am having trouble with coons. I would like to find an alternative to corn that will still bring the deer to the cameras, but not the coons. The alternative has to be in the same price range as corn. Anyone got any suggestions?

Not really. They eat the same thing on that side of the plate. Coons just add fish and such. Hell coons eat everything....

Coon are the reason I quit using feeders. It seemed the more I fed at a location the more I had coons. When I started dumping instead, just doing it more often with less , I had better luck. Just as many deer in frame just not the amount of coon pics. Just a thought. I am not going to put out $20 worth a corn a week for coon. Maybe coon are lazy ;)

Another thing that I do now is mix three bags of corn with one bag of molasses. They eat the dirt just like on a mineral site long after the corn is gone.

I would think a pvc feeder would keep coons out. No? Raise it up a bit more?

A pvc feeder would work great, but I don't have soul permission on the land I hunt, and have had issues with trespassers, so it's best to keep anything bright white or odd shaped away from the camera. Draws TOO much attention.

I'm just sick of feeding the coons. The deer at one camera run off every time the coons come in because there are so many of them. I guess I only have to deal with it for another month, cause once the season rolls around, I will stop feeding in all spots but one.

Is this the max's flea market thing? I heard rumors that kenton was coming back. But without dog trials. I refuse to go to the water dog trials.. Them ain't coon dogs anymore than Michal Phelps is a nascar driver..

Yep that be it. They do have coon dogs out the yang. Alot of selling of the dogs also. I am not saying to buy one there but at least you could get some cash for him instead of spending $0.07 on getting rid of him.... Plus, there is a crap ton of guns to look at. Great people watching and some serious dirt legs.

Who wants a dog that ain't worth the $0.07 to get rid of him? I could sell him on his papers easy, but i don't like dog jockeying people. Too may cull dogs getting bought and sold these days.. Prolly won't buy one there.. You don;t know what them pups are out of even if they have papers that litter could be out of anything. Coondogs are best bought off the tree under the moonlight.. But I'm sure every one of those dogs there is a tree dog and a half. lmao

That place has more dudes that wear bibs and nothing else per capita than any other place on the planet! I took my wife last time and she was dumbfounded. She said "there are more guns than teeth at this place!" :smiley_crocodile:

HAHAHAHAHA.. Awesome.. Maybe I'll trade him for a sweet .22 or something. He'll hunt for a guy that likes to walk. He'll fall off on a coon if you're with him walking.. He just don't like to GO hunt.. And he's pretty still on track. But when he locates he gives a Big ole howl with a high pitch woooooooooo at the end... If this dude would tree there would NEVER be a question to calling your dog treed.. Or anyone else treeing your dog for that matter..

Dude.. He's got it all...

Good Chop mouth on the tree
Great Tree bawl
Doesn't run garbage.. Deer, opossum, fox, nothing..
Good nose on him. Can smell coon in the tree when he runs by..
Pretty sharp on trail. I drug a coon in a rolling cage i backtracked and broke off.. Later he trailed to the end. Ran out of scent. Back tracked and picked up the cut..
HATES coon.. Will damn near eat a cage to get at a coon..
Not afraid to get his face in there and get bit. Doesn't shy or nip.
Walks good on the lead.

The sorry mother fucker just won't GO HUNT.. He hangs within 100 yards of the truck running around.. He thinks it's play time. He needs to think hunting is play time.. He't had enough coon shot out to him to get it by now.. He gets IT.. He just don't DO IT.. Ben will tree and JR will be nowhere to be seen.. pop a .22 shell and here he comes, bawling and looking to rough up a coon.

The ONLY other downside is he'll jack a tree like no dog i've ever seen before.. I'm talking over my head heights and bounce back like 8 feet.. He did it one night when i was walking up to him on tree. His hips hit me in the shoulder and he flipped over my back.. Smacked the ground, got back up and kept doing it...

I've tried everything to break him of it.. I tied him down one night to the bottom of a tree to where he couldn't jump... He would get down and try to jump banging his head on the tree... Damn near killed himself banging his head off the tree. Like 100 fuggin times one after another.. The dog hates coon that bad..

IF I could only get him to hunt and tree that dog would be fuggin lights out.

Oh.. And he won't load worth a shit... Put his feet on the tailgate and take a leash to his rear.. Usually one pop and any dog jumps up and loads in the box.. Not JR, He'll look over his shoulder at you like ,you'll get tired in a minute. And don;t think you're going to let another dog out of the same box he's in and not him... HAHA.. Fuggin magic trick trying to get him back in the box if there is another dog hunting...

I've picked him up under his belly and by his collar and tried to shove him in the box.. NADA.. It's like trying to get toothpaste back in the tube..
