I have some ocean front property I am looking to sell. Seriously, I would research those properties hard before I committed to them. Not sure what the bow hunting land owner is thinking, he must only be into the meat aspect to offer that package.

Those are crazy prices IMO. 7 days for gun, 2 days for bonus, and 4 days for ML. 13 days of hunting total. I am also sure that this guy will blow the good deer off the piles prior to your hunts.

Someone will pay it. Remember when I floated the idea of doing just this and said "somebody is going to make a ton of money". It wasn't well received. 😅.

That 12 acre sounds like a sweet spot lol. The first one of these I got, probably 5 years ago he had 25+ property's. Wonder if people are just posting there own property's up, social media is everywhere and not like it's hard to do and noway that guy is picking thru applicants to choose the best people lol.

He's probably out knocking on doors and drumming up business, or approaching landowners posting their own land and offering to manage the headache for them, at no cost to them, then adding a premium.

The leasing train is going to leave the station regardless, we can stand on the station platform bitching, or hop in the engine and drive that fucker to get paid town
That is a bullshit argument. How many other things have you boycotted over the past year or two? You didn't want to buy from Kroger or Walmart for a while.

Me, you, or anyone else who disagrees isn't going to stop anything by not participating or boycotting the practice of leasing. It's going to happen regardless and the checks will be written, the only difference is who will cash it. It's just that simple really.

I personally don't have a problem with leasing and see it as a great way for like minded hunters to manage and enjoy the sport without all the headaches that come with farmer John giving access to every yahoo who asks. It's a great way to manage the wildlife population exactly how the club sees fit with established rules and penalties. Some clubs more strict than others. But the beauty of that is, if I disagree I can take my check elsewhere next year. I'll have zero issues finding a place to hunt with a group of like minded individuals here as everything worth hunting is largely leased. The vast majority of these leases here are nothing more than the TOO Strouds gathering, a place for friends and buddies to go and drink beer and do a little hunting. Which IMO is WAY better than the headaches that come with getting permission and being at the whims of a pen happy farmer, or shitty people who also have permission and constantly try to get you kicked out.

I leased land for 15 years. It was next to land I used to own. We had a group of 5 that hunted it and I was happy to do it.

I turkey and waterfowl hunt on private with permission.

I took a new hunter out for turkeys two years ago. Took him duck hunting this year. Let him kill his first deer and some squirrels on my place this year. I’d say he is recruited. But it is up to him to find his own way. I don’t owe him hunts forever. I might take him again I might not. Prime hinting time is reserved for my dad, my kids and me.

The new hunter now needs to buy land, lease land, hunt public or bust his butt to gain permission.

Leasing is not necessarily part of the recruitment discussion.

But in 15 other threads we try and find ways to recruit new hunters.

It's usually pretty easy to take a guest to your camp lease, most always include stipulations that allow a members immediate family to hunt and remove restrictions around antler size for youth if they exist. And as a bonus you don't have to worry about a guest trying to smooze the landowner and get permission themselves.

All of the talk of the bad hunters leasing up all of the hunting opportunities kind of misses the obvious point that the land is owned by someone else. No hunter is leasing anything without the landowner deciding to do so. Land owners have been taken for granted for so many years by hunters and many of them now want some control and some financial return on their property and access. They own the property, they alone have controlling rights of who can and can not utilize their property. It is really hard to find fault with that thought process.

I never called anyone a bad hunter. The pay to play is what gets me fired up. Leasing land doesn't make you a bad hunter or wrong. I worry about it becoming something that only the elite can afford to do.

There's more land than there are elites. I mentioned earlier that everything here worth hunting that isn't hunted by the landowner is leased. There are three clubs within walking distance of my parent's house. They range in size from a couple hundred to a couple thousand acres. They also range in price from a couple hundred to a couple thousand a year. There are clubs in the state that cost more per year than most of our annual salaries also. If someone wants to hunt it's out there and a club that fits their needs is available. Some of them are like Mingo with extra facilities like a trap range, pool etc. Some have actual camps where guys set up little cabins or campers and leave them, and some are just straight land access. There is even high dollar country club like ones that employ a chef and meals are served, and they have spa days for the wife, or bouncy house days for the kids while dad is out hunting. Those are nothing more than vacation home communities where dad has land to hunt. I've done both paid and unpaid land access for hunting. By far paid is a way better experience. Unless you can find that one farmer who lets you hunt and you pretty much have the place to yourself. The biggest headaches I've ever had was on free access property. Be it with trespassers, other people with permission, even landowners themselves. I once had the sherrif knock on my door because they ran my plate number while I was parked in a farm road that I had permission on. The landowners' son who never hunts just decided to show up that weekend to hunt. He was shitty that someone else was hunting and raised a bitch with his dad, his dad being older and non-confrontational kind of went with it. The son is who called the Sherrif. I had a slip so I wasn't worried but the Sherrif said he was turning it over to the game warden. I never got a call from the warden probably because he figured out it was a family matter and the son was a prick. But at the end of the day I never hunted there again, I don't have time to deal with high school bullshit. Most clubs have a board and established rules. Not saying that doesn't get abused sometimes as many clubs have gone to shit based on who got on the board. But by in far it's a much better experience.

Someone like myself with 3 kids would quit before playing thousands for a chance at a deer. And if I did pay to hunt, I'll be damned if I'm going to let deer walk by.

I guess the way I look at is, if I can lease ground and add additional acreage under my control around or near my current property, that will allow me to offer new hunters or close friends far better hunting opportunities - than I was previously able to offer.

Now, by leasing that ground up, am I possibly booting someone off that property, yes. However, there is a chance the ground was going to be leased anyway, so why not by me- if I budget and can afford it?

I ask a lot of my neighbors that if they sell, please let me have the first offer. If I have to cut timber early, sell a tractor or a kidney - I will just about do it, to buy additional land.

I am blessed in my situation and I budget very closely 12 months a year, so I can take advantage of these types of opportunities. To me, the opportunity to lease or buy additional land is a priority and I treat it as such.
