Got word today I was drawn for a control hunt archery tag unit 52a -1. Hunt opens August 15th, I plan on arriving several days early to glass some goats and try to pick out an active waterhole. Being a teacher I have time restraints and will hunt until I have success or my wife demands on come home.

So you’ll be there until you drop a goat? 😂
Good luck!!!

So earlier this year in April I bought a new compound (mathews) upgrading from my 12 year old basic martin that I used infrequently, not hunting or shooting with it much at all last year and using crossbow due to to coach, newborn, etc. So after picking up my new mathews I started shooting immediately, in doing so I discovered that I was struggling to see ( 40 yards and further)the faded worn out white target spots on my block, I repainted them bright orange and never really thought twice about it, but I was struggling to see the spots. It wasnt until the Summer gathering where I shooting with Nate and Jesse at bottles and cans that I realized I had a vision problem. I was really struggling to see the plastic bottles we were shooting at 40 yards. Because of this problem I am no longer going to Idaho, it would be unethical to shoot at an a animal while experiencing issues with my vision. I am schedule to get lasik corrective eye surgery 18th with my first initial appointment being on 16th. So glad I went to the gathering and realized I had a real problem rather than taking blurry unethical shots.

Couldn't you just update your prescription for your glasses?

Glad you realized you needed some help with seeing well. Makes a huge difference when trying to shoot long distances at a target let alone 'pick a spot' on an animal. I used to be able to wear contacts but I'm getting to the point I need bi-focals and every contact I tried was too difficult to stay focused. Glasses suck but when they are the right prescription they can be priceless.

100% agree that LASIK of the best money I’ve ever spent too. I had mine done by Dr. Wiley at Clear Choice Custom LASIK in Brecksville back in the spring of 2019. I still have 20/15 perfect vision and my astigmatism was also corrected. My only regret, as everyone says, is not getting it done sooner.

@Bigcountry40 just keep in mind that a common “side effect” of LASIK or PRK or SMILE corrective surgery is actually increased light sensitivity. It doesn’t really bother me on a day to day level but I definitely notice it sometimes. Especially in the dentists office… those bright lights are killer. Just something to think about and discuss during your initial consultation.

Do your research and learn about the process as much as you can. And definitely go to a reputable surgeon. You get what you pay for.

One of the main reasons I always have sunglasses. Also the reason I started investing in good sunglasses. Winter snow is the worst. The reflection is painful.

I had mine done back in 2009 or 2010. By far one of the best investments. I do wear readers now but they will tell you that it doesn’t stop us from aging. 🤣😎🤣

Smart move John. Not to hijack this, but my eyesight has went to hell also. I just bought a xbow for myself due to this. I've never had glasses. Is Lasik an option for me or do insurance companies make you do glasses/contacts first?

You won’t know if LASIK is an option for you until you go in for a consultation. They have to take various measurements of your eye and the cornea thickness to determine whether you’re a good candidate or not. Also, most insurance plans do not cover LASIK as it is generally considered an elective surgery.

Welcome to my world!

LASIK isn't an option for me, I checked into it a long time ago. Can't stand to wear contacts and I really do not like wearing glasses either, but it all apart of getting old, which sucks!

I go through eyeglasses like they are going out of style! Seems like they don't make them to last, at all, or able to handle a working-man's way of life. I'm about to head to my eye-doctor in about week for my annual checkup, and for another new pair of glasses cause I broke my last two sets. I'm currently wearing an old pair of the wife's

I have to get checked for glaucoma ever year too cause my optic nerve is larger than normal in one of my eyes, at let me tell ya, it's not a fun process by any stretch of the imagination. I've injured my eyes over the years, which I believe has caused a quicker progression of failing eyesight for me so, take care of your eyesight folks, cause going blind can't be all that fun I would imagine.
