Wish I had some over the top story that goes with this buck. Unfortunately not too much. We moved some deer on the first drive, appeared too be does. First drive, @Ohiosam and i drove it with another guy flanking. The guys who were posted booted 3 out on their way in, they all appeared too be slick heads. Second drive I was posted half way up the other side of a holler with my brother below me about 75 yards. Sam above him. Towards the end of the drive I heard a squirrel going off the deep end about 60 yards in front of me. Got ready, couple minutes later 4 bucks popped up over a rise @25 yards. Lead one looked the biggest and he went behind a tree, lifted the gun, safety off. As soon as he cleared the tree he was quartering away up the hill. Pulled the trigger, he spun down the hill running at a 45 degree angle away from me. The other bucks followed but I was more concentrated on mine.
Mine plowed for about 10’ and that was it. Total distance of about 50 yards. Now that he was down I was more aware of what else was going on. Two of the smaller bucks were below me. Then I hear the dreaded "pop”….. Cap went off, powder didn’t. It was my brother, I thought he was shooting at the other bucks below me. Apparently in my focusing on my buck I missed out on the one that was bringing up the rear. Bigger buck, and he ran down towards my brother and stopped @20 yards broadside looking up at me. Never saw my brother. He lined up on him and the rest you know…. Buck spun around and headed for the hills…. The other 2 hung around for a few minutes, Mike couldn’t get a bead on them due too scrub trees in the way. They finally took off like scalded cats and were never seen again.
I‘d say this is probably the biggest buck of my deer hunting career too date. I’m happy too get him and I’ll be happier too cook him up!
This is the wrap of my 21-22 season. My third deer for Ohio and my last. I’ll be walking moving deer the remainder of the muzzy season for the guys I hunt with.
Thanks for all the congratulations it really means a lot coming from you knuckleheads…. 😃 Here’s hoping for some more success stories too come……
