Lever action rifles

That is a beauty of a 44mag. I would struggle to spend that much to drag it thru the woods. Might need more than 9 days out of the year opportunity to use it. I might spend that on an AR platform 450 and use it to obliterate coyotes in the winter. Not on a deer season only gun though. That is just me. Then again, I bought several 44mag over the years and have only carried one into the woods. Revolver variety.
How would the Henry 44 Mag. be any different for coyotes than an AR 450? 🤔
Either rifle could double up for deer and coyotes. 👍

This "honor system" opens the door for more citations, if caught.
I was at one of the game hearings, when they were changing to plugged guns and it didn't effect handgun hunters. They wanted to know why. The DNR officials said, "The handgun hunters aren't shooting each other. We're seeing tube magazine extensions, increased accidents and wreckless "pumping lead" through the woods. If you won't regulate yourselves, we'll regulate you."
It got kinda quiet after that statement. 🤔

It would have fallen quiet except for my asshole self would have responded. "Correlation does not prove causation. Do you have any data on the ratio of handgun hunters to long gun hunters to quantify that accident data statement? By that I mean if you have 200 times more people using long guns than pistols the odds go up within the larger group, That doesn't prove that one is more or less prone to reckless behavior or accidents than the other, only that the incident rate is more visible in the larger group"

Probably why I don't have any friends at the ODNR. 😅

First off- I still have the Henry 44mag I bought from you. Therefore, I don't need to drop a grand in another. 🤣

AR platform would be much better/easier to outfit with the Wraith site, additional lights, etc. I don't have a 450. Better ballistics, reach, and knock down with a 450. And. . . I sorta just want one. 😁

Lastly, I'm impressed at how many turns this thread has taken. Sorry to detail it anymore Dustin. I'm keeping my eyes open for a 44mag for you.

@hickslawns.... Threads taking turns on TOO ???? Nah... Say it ain't so, no way... This thread has touched on "the gun" and a little on " optics"... BUT... We didn't discuss " SLINGS" yet... So what's it gonna be Dustin... Leather with a buck embroidered on it or a plain black nylon one??? At any rate keeping my eyes out for the gun he pictured somewhere above...Even put my name on a waiting list at Grices in Pa....

I'm in total agreement and likewise, have no ODNR friends....nor do I want any. :) That's why I asked the question, "How many handgun accidents do you have recorded vs. shotgun and muzzleloader?" Their answer was that they don't have any recorded data of any handgun accidents. Conversely, shotguns were the highest with very few using muzzleloaders, but they didn't offer any actual numbers. They might have, if asked. 🤔
They did say that the percentage of handgun hunters is extremely low, like 5% or less, depending on the year's statistics.

Thanks for jogging my memory as to who I sold the Henry to. 🙄 Retirement is good, but the memory loss is catching up to me. :ROFLMAO:

I'd have to agree with you on the AR build. The ergonomics of an AR are hard to beat. 👍
A lever-action with N/V, pic rails, red dots, etc. would be very "frankensteinish". 🚫

The number one cause of accidents causing serious injuries or death is falls from tree stands. But the ODNR doesn't consider them hunting accidents so the don't track them. Only incidents involving weapons are tracked as hunting accidents.

On the Mossberg 450 I bought I ordered extra clips for it so I can make one inoperable so I can use it in Illinois.... I think I'll pour fiberglass resin in one so spring will not depress...

Reasoning?
J..... I called Illinois DNR.. CANNOT HAVE A FUNCTIONAL CLIP ON YOUR PERSON... Pain in the ass to load a bolt without clip in turning gun sideways or upside down, plus leaving clip out, all kinds of dirt getting up there... Clip is plastic, so can't spot weld it... So I figured pouring in liquid resin would suffice.... Open to suggestions...
