Had a pretty productive afternoon/ evening. Ended up using the wind to my favor and walked 1.4 miles rather than 1/4 mile lol. Bumped a doe that was bedded within 20 yards of the main trail on the way in, continued up the ridge with bedding on the south side. Got up to the peak and heard some movement on the bench below me, slipped up to the edge and nocked an arrow. 4 does, 2 mature, 2 fawns easing their way along the bench then on top of the ridge with me, could’ve shot any 4 of them but holding onto my public land doe tag for gun week down here. They ended up spotting me so they dropped back into the bottom. I texted Nate and Jesse for advice as far as thermals and shit goes, I kinda listened lol. I dropped down to the bench they were on, and walked up the trail the direction they came from. I made it about 50-75 yards when I heard another deer coming down the trail. I quickly nocked an arrow in anticipation that it was a buck. I was right, but let me tell ya he was the cutest spike ever. 2” on each side, busted me immediately and blew like a mofo all the way back to where he came from. I continued down the trail looking for the ideal tree to get in, but never found one. I got back on top of the ridge and went back to where the does came up the saddle. With no good trees to climb, I opted to sit on a log. Had decent cover and had 2 scrapes in shooting range. Sat there from 4ish-dark. About 30-40 min before last shot I had another group of 3 does come down the trail, all offered a shot at less than 15 yards which was pretty sweet. One dropped down to the next bench and started blowing almost immediately. The wind was still stiff from the south so my thermals shouldn’t have been dropping to them. I drifted a shit ton of milkweed and every bit floated uphill and across the ridge. No sooner they all start boogeying across the bottom and bench, and then I heard a some grunting and an additional deer down in the bottom and chasing ensued. Dark rolled around without any more action. Wind does a complete 180 tonight, so I’ll likely hunt the same bottom but the other side. Not sure if I’ll go in well before light, or wait till I have a little gray light. We’ll see.
Hopefully I can sometime in the morning. I hit a nice 8 on our farm last night at 6:30 but after watching him for about 20 minutes after the shot he still hadn’t laid down or fell. He mule kicked and the shot was inside 10 yards. Might have hit a tad further back than I would have liked. Hoping to find him close to where I last saw him before I left. I pulled bolt out from dirt and examined it when I got to bros garage. Light pink on the white fletch with lots of hair on shaft. Had complete pass through thinking I entered where top 1/3 and middle 1/3 height meet and I thought I saw a big hole on off side center mass 3-5” up and maybe back a bit. Hoping letting him go over night in these temps he dies where he lays down which was in the creek bed below. Long night ahead but with some great help tomorrow I hope I can share some pictures. Just hope yotes don’t push him or worse find him before we do if he’s dead. Had a great hunt tonight videoing a nice young 10 and saw the 8 I shot and a spike and 2 big does and 2 medium sized bb’s all from 5:55-6:30. They were on their feet plenty before dark and all were well in shooting distance. I just wish my shot placement was a tad more forward. I’ll let y’all know in the morning how it shakes out.

Best of luck to you. What county are you in? If it wasn't too far I'd volunteer to help if needed. Sounds like you did everything right after the shot and if yotes didn't push him he should be dead in a bed somewhere. I'm amazed at how many hunters still think it's okay to track a gut/liver deer immediately.Hopefully I can sometime in the morning. Had our first issuing bumping deer this AM. I can only hunt the morning, so I'm just now getting to the farm. My buddy is sitting all day, so he went in early since it's a long walk to where he'll be. Road his bike right into this guy. It seems like the buck was headed across the road, so it may have helped us, or at least that's what I'll choose to believe for now! I did get a pic of a good buck running past a nearby camera, and he thinks it was this buck.
Thanks for the offer Seth but it’s probably a good poke for you. I’m in Morgan County.

We in the tree. Time to spill some blood fellas. Good luck to everyone.
Took the lazy approach today since I can't hunt very long. I set this spot up for the kids, hence the feeder. It's the easiest in/out that I have and is great for a WNW wind in the mornings. It's usually a boring sit in the mornings, but if they cruise this bottom, they'll be in bow range. I'm in between bedding areas and have had good luck seeing bucks here in the past, so anything is possible I guess. It's breezy and cold, so I'm not too mad about being in a blind. Back to the grind and in a real setup tomorrow.
