Zip for me, but I did climb down a little early. Great friend of mine, Eli, texted me “Holey fuxk I just shot a doe at 5 yaeds on the ground public”. Note about ole ‘Birdbath’, he is a super avid duck hunter, but only occasionally deer hunts when he needs a break from waterfowl. I texted him and asked if he wanted a hand since he was hunting some public not far from my permission property to the west. He said it was close to 3/4 mile back and he would gladly take a hand. So I stopped to get gas and a couple tall boiz and headed his way. We met at the truck and he filled me in. He was sitting on the edge of a pond scouting for geese and took his bow just in case. He was wearing his pants and shoes from work, and his unwashed hoodie he wore for 9 days straight duck hunting the UP last week. He sat down “criss cross apple sauce” on the edge of the pond to watch for birds and kept an arrow nocked just in case. He heard a deer moving his way through the thicket and drew his bow. He didn’t see her until she was 8 yards, and shot when she was at 5 yards quartering to. He said she wheel barrowed 10 yards and expired. This is his second deer of the season and also second with a Mega Meat broadhead. I won’t ever switch to mechanicals, but if I did I’d likely switch to those, Jesus H Christ what a hole they make. We used 2 ratchet straps and drug her out as a team and it took me only 2 lattes and no time at all to get her out. I think I was more excited for him than I was my buck this year 😂 She had one of the biggest heads I’ve ever seen, and was missing a foot lol. Sorry for the long winded tale, but I’m pumped for him.

My day started out well! Hunting one of my best travel ways with a SW wind and two big scrapes thirty yards from me. Six does came through before 9:00 at different times and none had a clue I was hiding in the big triple trunk oak. One of the does hung out at the scrapes for over a hour and seemed to be watching and listening for a buck to show which one never did. I'll be back in that area in the morning in a different stand. Supposed to be a SE wind. See what happens 🦌

Hunting farm this morning and had a small spike come through 15 minutes ago. Got great news this morning via text! Our neighbor got the deer I hit yesterday on his cell cam and he look to have recovered just fine! The bolt must have deflected of rib bone due to sharp angle. That’s a huge weight of me that I’ve been carrying. Won’t be taking that shot again.👍🏻

Isn't that what you said you wanted to kill this year?
Gun season is closing in. There is hope something better comes along. Need to see what the schedule allows moving forward. Not sure I'm ready for that just yet but next week or the week after (or tomorrow for that matter) I may change my mind. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Went to Ohio last Tuesday, hunted Wednesday all day, saw good movement early and late.
Thursday and Friday the winds were against me and didn’t hunt got some scouting in and saw a good buck.
Saturday had said buck walk by me and missed him @ 34 yards…. 🤬🤬🤬🤬
I’m a small buck killer, big bucks always get lucky and get away….. 🙄
Saw a lot of hood movement Sunday as well. Just nothing came by that I’d hang a tag on, yet…..
Monday started of very slow. No movement at all around me between sunrise and 0800. That’s when all he’ll broke loose. Noticed a flash of white a little ways off north of me. A few minutes later it came flying by me at the speed of light with 4 bucks in tow. First 3 were small 1.5 year olds. The big boy was last in. She stopped in a small red brush thicket. Small bucks surrounded her. Big guy ain’t having any of that and bum rushed them all outta there.
That went on for the next hour and a half. Somewhere along the line of me being fixated on this group, another shit show was going on across the creek from me about a hundred yards away.
They made their way closer to me when the current shit show went into warp speed again. Although the action was hilariously taking place and provided some outstanding entertainment, not a single one of those bastards stopped by too say hi!
This sit had to be one of my all time best rut activity shows I’ve ever witnessed in my 35+ years of deer hunting….
All the fun with none of the mess. I’m back home this afternoon writing this. I’ll have a lot of memories from this trip, both good and bad…. But it’ll stick with me the remainder of my life!
Just wish I could have that shot do over again 🤬🤬🤬😂
