Division of Wildlife discussed potential changes to Ohio deer herd management strateg

So, I'm confused. We have too many deer, or not enough? For purely selfish reasons, I don't want to see any early gun seasons in October or November, but that is because I only bow hunt. :) I'm pretty new to hunting, and for the most part I'm really not looking for a trophy and only a trophy...

5Cent, I mailed my application in on 10/11. The charge showed up on my CC on 11/20, and I got the letter that my prints were not good enough on 11/24. They say allow 5-6 weeks for processing. I'm not sure what I could have done better since I did go to the local sheriff office to get them...

Well, after waiting and waiting, I got something back from the FBI finally today. The finger prints the local Sheriff did for me were not good enough to ID. So, I'm less than 2 weeks from my hunt date, and no FBI background check done (but I'm out $18 for it anyhow) so I'm screwed for the...

Already saw one buck chasing. 4 point, but decent body.

    They have balls

Fair enough. That obviously looks like longer than 3". So my next question is, what happens to you if you had already tagged an antlered deer this year and you did that? I ask because I honestly don't know.

    They have balls

Well doesn't this point to one of the rules of hunting, know you target and beyond? Also, is this more of a gun season issue? If archery, I wouldn't think the shots would be far enough to make the mistake?

    Now what?

There are several organizations where you can donate your venison to help feed the hungry: http://www.ohiodnr.com/wildlife/dow/regulations/hunting_general.aspx#share If you don't want to stop hunting that is.

Argh, got TOO aggressive with a call.

Well, he really wasn't all that little. Big Bodied, and as I said at least 6 points, I think it was more like 8, but real compact spread on it. Still, live and learn. Went back this morning and a couple of doe came by, the smaller one presented me a shot, and I can now say I've tagged my...

Argh, got TOO aggressive with a call.

2nd year hunting (I'm 43) and I've been having a check of a time seeing a deer this year. Was hopeful for today. Sat in my ladder stand this morning on my property. Nothing going on and underestimated the cold. Back to house, more layers including heated vest. Out to some public hunting...

    This Deal Cant Be Beat!

I considered that, and if I was going to leave it setup someplace, it would probably be what I would use. However where I'd use this blind I would more than likely need to carry it in and out for any sit. Otherwise one of my Gander Mountain Mojo 2.0 chairs would be my choice. :) I was looking...

    This Deal Cant Be Beat!

Just mine a few days ago. Man this thing is huge! Anyone have a suggestion for a chair to use while hunting in it?

I hear ya. It seems like the little I info I can find on this hunt it sounds like you need to be flexible to move around. Not like we get to scout it, find the trails and pick a tree and more importantly shooting lanes for our stands. Depending on how much I like that Command Post blind, I...

Thanks 5Cent. I'm looking forward to it. To be honest, I was kind of hoping you'd say "no, the climbers are of no use..." Heh, just extra to carry in. :) Of course I just ordered one of those blinds posted about in another thread here, so that could be an option as well.

Anyone with any more information about this hunt? Especially to my question if I want to bring my climber tree stand?
