    Ran into Al Linder a long time ago at an old Atlantic Gun & Tackle. He was cool. We talked about muskie fishing at Kawartha lakes in Canada. I was going up there the next week.

    I have a bunch of spots that are quick looks. Depending on the time of year & the weather, mushrooms like oysters, chanterelles, hericium, chickens,shaggy manes, shaggy parasols, puffballs or hens are either there or they're not. Morels always take me more time.

    I took the grass out down to dirt. Soaked some big sheets of cardboard & tore them apart so the corragated part was exposed. Layed that down with soaked straw on top & then covered with oak mulch. Spread the spawn between the layers. Watered it down when my garden needed it. Was very easy & the...

    Last spring I ordered wine cap & shiitake spawn. Wine caps were spread in a prepared bed & in august they started popping, probably over 100 came up over the next month. Also got 250 shiitake plugs that were inoculated in oak logs. They should be fruiting this year.

    If they were growing on trees(wood) they were likely velvet foot. A white spore print would confirm that.

    Be glad to help out. I've turned many on to the many types of edibles, & there are many. Even in winter you can find oysters & velvet foot.
