I went down to Meigs to see how well my invasives are growing and I was kinda shocked how many deer I seen. Side of road, on road dead, and on the property. There was deer everywhere! What’s your region and observations so far?
In SE Ohio. Meigs county to be more exact. In the last three years I have noticed a lot of pines falling down. I have heard about the concept of soil disturbances can lead to trees being affected and falling but I have seen a lot of pines in sections that are untouched. Has anyone else had...

I’m looking around for spring and found this website. I want some kind of mix to throw at my plots I opened up last year. Everything I planted came up nice in July-August and then was hammered before it could turn into anything.
I am hoping I can get ahead of the critters...
One section of the program I found very interesting was about the actual deer numbers.
-In Ohio do we have a real issue? My take was the two podcasters wanted stuff to change so the age structure improves on their properties.
-I hunt Norwest Ohio and Southeast and this year I have seen...
-Hunting is pay to play
-you want to ban baiting and cell cams on public go for it but telling a free man what to do on his own ground is where it starts to bother me.
-Let's not pretend people who bait and use cell cams and bows that shoot 50yards (CROSSBOW & COMPOUNDS) are Fred bear or...
My take was basically Rex said nothing is going to change. Rex did say however cdw could lead to the outright banning of baiting.
I love my crossbow though, I got a ten point that was supposed to be 7 or 8 hundo marked down to like 350 because the store was going out of business 8 or 9 years...
My iPhone picture plant app says Asian bittersweet vine? Is that right?
im cutting new plots in the woods in Meigs and this stuff is everywhere. So thick it looks like deer are not getting much benefit from it.
thanks for your help.
I have enjoyed the series as well. Everyday he’s doing something to improve his deer. I enjoy everything is centered around his family as well. It appears he’s a very blessed guy that puts in the work.
It’s funny how much people love freedom until it comes to taking it away from others. I am a healthy crossbow hunter. I don’t play this game for you or what you wish you could shoot if everyone just followed your suggestions. I respect the rights of the individual.
Should baiting and cell...
Oak and walnut obviously have a market in southeast Ohio my question is anyone every hear of someone coming in and selectively cutting maple, beech, and popular? I understand these are not the highly desirable species loggers want I am just curious if anyone has heard of this?
What tree species should I be eliminating to improve the stand? I usually am more willing to cut a maple or beech if it’s crowding out a good looking white or red oak or even a nice popular. Any tree advice is appreciated.
Very impressive Henry! Those are some nice bulbs anywhere!
i believe I am going to try some experimenting with rye, oats, and clover until I’m done carving out new plots or expanding a couple small ones on 60 acres. Then I’m going to do the soil testing and see what inputs I need with...
There is an good portion of fellows on here from south east Ohio and I am curious what are some simple steps you have taken to get things to grow in this region?
Has anyone had success with the deer grow product?
I have not done a soil test but it seems like there is very little nutrients in...
Thanks.
I'm going hunting around athens on the 14th so hopefully they are all off by then.
Im not familiar with hunting southern ohio for sheds.
Where should I focus my efforts?

Any pines?
The thickest thorn patch?
Hay fields?
Stick to the paths?
In northwest...
