    Deer Rifle Advice

Buddy of mine has a Ruger 450. It's pretty handy and short. It blows big holes in deer though. He is going back to his 45-70 with light loads.

Thanks all. I don't get a chance to watch it most mornings so I set a camera out. I shot a Jake there last year that was hanging out in a group of 12 or so other jakes the last weekend of the season. First time seeing mature birds or hens here.

I teach where he is from and the school is going to sell tshirts to help benefit the family. I believe they will run $15. If anyone wants more information let me know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Turkey habits

I have this group of turkeys, best I can tell is 3 or 4 toms, a couple jakes and 8 or so hens using my unharvested bean field most afternoons. What are the odds this group will break up and also what are the odds they will use this field to strut in? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Flocking/airbrushing

Totally agree. My thought with going darker for this one was bigger open water. Or that's what I like to say. Honestly the base coat under the white flocking was too dark and airbrushing it brighter didn't work. It's definitely going to be a constant learning experience. I appreciate the feedback!

    Flocking/airbrushing

So I have been into flocking for a little while, not sure how much it actually helps. I recently started airbrushing and this is my first attempt. I am thinking in the places I hunt 5 or 6 fully flocked and brushed deeks with one fixed with my secret weapon will make a difference. Anyone else...

    hooded mergansers

They probably won't stick around. They're skittish, even more then wood ducks and in my experience don't return to a spot if they have been spooked (unless it's December and they are everywhere)

Yeah it's very frustrating. Even though I'm out in the middle of nowhere there are still barn cats and dogs running around. And people complain about coyotes. Feral cats are worse than coyotes.

And Gordo as far as snares go I just can't do them. Too many neighbor cats and dogs running around. I get enough grief setting foot hold traps.

I looked at the waterfowl forum and damn you seem to get on them. I hunted ducks more this year than any other and had very little luck. The public spots I thought nobody else used were covered in people this year skybusting etc. I would very much like to meet up sometime.

    2017-2018 season

I do go after crows and pigeons in the off season there's just not many pigeons around and the crows wise up pretty quickly.

    2017-2018 season

Hey everyone I'm new here so besides my intro on the main page I thought we could talk about how our seasons went. I hunt mostly public land in SE OH for ducks and private in Central OH for geese. Didn't have a good year for ducks with the early freeze up. How did everyone else do?

The way I see it, and how my hunting buddies and I operate is if you aren't getting picked on you aren't liked! I try to fill this time of year with coyote hunting to hold me over till the thaw and turkey season. Hope it goes quick!

Thanks Gordo. I'm 29, work as a 4th grade special education teacher in SE Ohio. Married no kids yet. My biggest passion in hunting is waterfowl, can't get enough. I hunt deer for the meat, not a big antler guy. Love small game as well. I like fishing too...make a couple trips to Erie and Ontario...
