When I see the first fawn, if feels like it's time to take the cams seriously again. I expect this cam to be on fire come late October. I need to lower it a touch, but this trail around the head of a drainage is seeing a ton of traffic and its a great spot to catch cruising bucks.

Finally! Something to get excited about. It's comical that I won't have a buck on camera at our farm, 80 acres of manicured whitetail habitat, all summer. But my 11 acres of basically suburban habitat holds summer time bucks like crazy. This first buck is a textbook Shoestring Acres buck. Tight, heavy 9. For generations, that's been the standard and he's carrying it on.

Great location for a good mock scrape on that first camera...
... I'm sure you know all about them but this is a great overview with good tips.

Looking fwd to the pics and hopefully video...

Yep. I moved the camera back to the mock scrape I've had for years that's 100 yards from that pinch. Same one I shot last year's buck in. As October unfolds and the bucks begin to work our place, this cam becomes the barometer for deer activity out there.

The buck in the back is a clean 10 and the type of deer you'd love see have another year or two. He's got great genetics, but he's as big as he'll ever be if we gives us a shot this fall. The buck on the right is a year older and all he'll ever be as well. Good looking prospects for us no matter how it shakes out!

The color difference on these two is cool to see. It's also cool to see how far bucks will move, even in the summer. I first saw the 10 point in a field 1.5 miles from my cam. It's not an easy route for him to get here from there, but he made it. Hopefully one (or both) of these 2 stay around and let's Kaydence chase him for a little bit.
