Let's be honest, if it doesn't impact anyone we love or know, and our quality of life isn't impacted, 46 million less people isn't wholly a bad thing. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen without it hitting too close to home.

Well the lions share of that would be in underdeveloped countries. For example, none of the "stans" have a reported case, or the former western soviet countries, or the entirety of Africa. Despite there being cases in the majority of more developed countries surrounding them. Odds are its there also and they simply don't have a clue. By the time they catch on the number of infected would be well beyond their ability to mount effective services. The largest worry here in the US is the rate of spread and surge in medical demand. A long drawn out spread lends itself better to care than a sweeping mass infection. Likely why the CDC has started random testing on standard flu patients in major areas like LA, NY, DC, Chicago etc. They need to catch a community outbreak quickly to monitor transmission and prepare for demand on services.

I never gave a 2nd thought to MERS or SARS. Guess it's due to my age and where I was in life vs where I am now. Not much we can do about the current situation, but it is hard to swallow with little ones running around under our responsibility umbrella now.

At the end if the day, I'm not going to spend much energy worrying about this as contagious items fall under a bucket in my mind of little to no opportunity to protect my family from it given the world we live in today. I just hope they figure this strand out in the lab, where it came from and how to treat it so life can continue.

If I catch it from coffee, then in my mind we are all fucked. So be it, enjoy that cup of joe make piece with the big man above and enjoy the ride.

.
Kinda the same here. Although with my lungs, I doubt I'll stand much of a chance of surviving it if I do get it. There's only so much in life I can control, ths isn't one of them

Import/export will be shut down when this outbreak really breaks out.

It will be hell on the world economy. Already seeing it in China with the closing of Apple plants etc. But I doubt seriously it will stop world trade.

I'm now paying attention to what I order from Amazon. Until this thing settles, I'll be like the little old lady that came into the store one night when I worked for Sherwin-Williams. She wanted to buy wallpaper paste, but only if it was American made. I couldn't find the product origins on the package and she got pissy with me. "I'll never buy another thing from this store unless you can prove where it was made." I've always recalled that encounter thinking how difficult her consumer experience must be and that I'm glad I have more to worry about than that. Whose laughing now?

Weird, me making thought provoking comments. Let’s not be scared but take this opportunity to better ourselves! Stand together and become that great country again.

This is a byproduct of of the worldwide trade deals.... Not saying it wouldn’t have happened decades ago, but since normal trade has been with China the speed of this whole scenario might prevent the finding a solution a moot point....

Sick people don't work.

A pandemic will be a show stopper for so many critical industries that support our way of life, such as the the energy sector. No elect, no heat, no gas, no food and so on. Most retail industries have no real inventory on hand, everything is usually dropped ship next day. Truckers get sick too.

This shit is for real folks and I would suggest to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

The world is way over due for a world wide pandemic. I would argue that if it happens in today's time, it would be much worse than those of our history.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over this current virus breakout, however I'll prepare no different than any other threat that we've faced. Weeks/months of food, generator, fuel, medical supplies, etc, etc...

Life will go on!

Hardly any consumer products are made in America anymore. The only thing that I've seen with any consistency is plastic injection molded food containers. Tuperware etc. I'm willing to bet the pellets are from overseas though. You'd be hard pressed to find any off the rack clothing, shoes, or other items. I flip over about 98% of things that I buy just to look and very rarely do I find something made in America.

My daughter work at a plant that makes a product most of you have in your fridge. They have a plan of how to respond if an employee gets sick, either at work or home. They did the training this week.

I had a thread on here a while back about this. Found that Ariat jeans and some other Texas brand were basically the last ones making jeans here.
