A Decoy Distraction

I was out turkey hunting this morning and had a few lady visitors. :) These does were so curious about my turkey decoys, that they never seen me sitting on the ground, only 8 yards away. Granted I was downwind of them, but they never picked me out, while I sat there with my bare hands operating the camera on my phone.

I rarely hunt deer from the ground, but this gave me an idea of using a couple of hen turkey decoys to hold their attention, while I pick a good shot. After about 15 minutes or so, they became bored and moved on with the rest of the deer. There was a total of 8 deer.

I only ground hunt. From my experiences, having turkey and deer around gives you 200% chance of getting busted. Turkey eyes and a deers nose is about impossible to beat. You can NOT twitch. I would never intentionally bring both to my shooting lane.

giles,
I'm inclined to agree with you, on both. (y)
However, there are NO turkeys where I hunt deer, but they are on neighboring properties to the north. So, the deer are familiar with the birds.
Otherwise, it could be an invitation to disaster.
