Go ahead and string me up, but this is why I was never fully comfortable with open carry. Too many retarded hilljacks out there that give gun owners a bad look and it makes open carry an easy target for repeal. Quite honestly, in today's climate, it's a smart business decision whether you agree with it or not. Statistics support Wal-Mart and Kroger on this in terms of alienating customer base. Gun owners simply don't have the weight to influence Fortune 500 companies that have diversified businesses. i.e. staunch gun owners are only a small sample of their customer base.

“Kroger is respectfully asking that customers no longer openly carry firearms into our stores, other than authorized law enforcement officers. We are also joining those encouraging our elected leaders to pass laws that will strengthen background checks and remove weapons from those who have been found to pose a risk for violence. Our Kroger Purpose is to Feed the Human Spirit and, as America’s grocer, providing our associates and customers with a safe place to work and shop will remain our highest priority.”

Always amazes me how their moral compass always points too the $$$ .... Seems if they were that worried it wouldn’t have taken a mass shooting too take this stance.

The interesting thing's these stores are just searching for ways to align themselves with the anti-gun nuts. I've been to both kriger and Walmart thousands of times and have only ever seen maybe 1 person open carry. They're making this out to be liken it some huge thing that people do but in reality it's not. So they're literally making shit up just to get in the headlines.

I agree and disagree. While the entire drop of Dicks stock can't be pointed at a gun owner boycott it surely didn't help. They originally just dropped ARs but due to backlash they had to close the hunting and shooting section in most of their stores.

It's to be expected Dick's would suffer more as their customer base is weighted heavily towards the pro-gun crowd, whereas Kroger and Wally World have less 2A support statistically speaking.

And if anyone here is surprised that a for-profit enterprise would act in the best interest of the almighty $, you should come up for air more often. We can be pissed, but we can't be surprised at this point.

I think Walmart has really underestimated a lot of their clientele, especially those near rural areas. We tend to hold grudges longer and soon they won't even waste the time stocking their hunting/fishing section. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Lot of good points here. Like Joe pointed out, I can count on one hand how many times my entire life I've seen someone open carry in Walmart. Agree with Jesse, I understand from a business perspective. As far as myself, I do about 99% of my grocery shopping at two local small town stores. Wish I could get my wife away from Walmart. If anyone in greater Lima area wants a great priced store that in house butchers all their meats, and does deer, Stites grocery is amazing

Frobose in pemberville does the same. They also raise all their own meats.

We’ve been doing a lot of Aldi shopping lately, I’m gonna have to dig into their stance on this...guessing that Denice they’ve moved to almost all natural, I already know the answer.

Valid points on both sides. I'll add that open carrying in a grocery store just doesn't seem intelligent. If your whole purpose is to defend yourself while out in public, why would you want to advertise yourself as a potential threat to the offender? My guess is that in most cases, billy bad ass is simply strutting. In the end, as Jesse pointed out, it's a wise business decision to appeal to the majority of the audience, like it or not.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea to open carry everywhere you go. I’m saying it’s another step on my rights. What’s next, no open carry in public? Guess what, that directly effects every one of us hunters! Because we open carry to hunt.

I think it’s bullshit and every small victory to them is huge as a step to take our guns.

I don't disagree buddy. I remember back when Kroger had the no gun stickers on their doors. Ohioans for concealed carry lead a PR campaign and got them to change it. My Kroger still had the sign up and I took the Kroger memo into the manager and let him Know corporate had changed their stance and that the sign should be removed. He did so about a week later. To date it still not there.

With the exception of government buildings and places that it's an actual crime to carry, I don't even look for signs anymore. I carry 99% of the time where I want, and when I want. No fuckstick public relations or marketing person is going to dictate how and if I can protect my family. For that matter no congressman, governor or president will either. I'll carry a gun until the day they put me in the ground legal, illegal, peperwork or none.
