BBS 18-19 season

So I thought I would share my season with everyone and hopefully get feedback and suggestions. I absolutely love deer management, probably more than hunting, and taking my boys out and showing them how to hunt/manage land. So through the season I’ll show what I’m doing in my plots and in the stand. Last week I got all my brassicas in and it rained a few days later so should be good to go. After planting last weekend my wife and I took a long needed trip to Aruba. While on the beach my wife took this photo of me so she could show her friends and tell them “this is what I’m talking about”.........😂 My response=“you married me and I was like this before you met me”

Here are some of the plots we did last weekend. Had some issues in some of the corn so we brushhogged, cultivated then planted brassicas in the corn. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Brassicas are coming in nice. Planted last two spots of the season with clover/alfalfa and lightly put in plot spike forage feast as a cover for clover/alfalfa. Also hit the brassicas with urea and of course the rain went all around me last night.

So I haven’t had time to put the hay bale blind up until today. Put two hay bales in and the blind in front of it overlooking a corn, brassica and clover/alfalfa plot. Tons of deer coming in here every evening. Hopefully this new blind doesn’t spook them. I should know within an hour or two....

The first group of does came in downwind and clearly could smell the Chinese plastic in the blind. They snorted and took off. I sprayed the blind down with nose jammer and these other groups of does came in and fed. They were nervous but didn’t take off. The bucks clearly knew something wasn’t right and never came out. At least the blind is out now so they should be use to it by the rut. The muddy bale blind is pretty nice but the fit of the cover is horrible.
