Big Holla's 2015 Shed Hunt

Well it will be short and sweet and likely won't get added to unless some miracle happens and we get back down again. The story actually starts the Wednesday before Easter weekend. We had been planning for weeks to head down for the weekend and our plan was to make it a long weekend. Well Wednesday at work I started bleeding pretty badly down below which turned into a panic as I went from my doctor to a specialist to eventually the emergency room at the hospital. I was admitted, had an upper and lower GI done and eventually 2 pints of blood before I was finally released in the afternoon on Easter Sunday. No real clear sign of the cause but they did find a couple ulcers and diverticulitis which they felt was the cause. Felt like shit on Monday but I managed to go to work for a while and slowly as the week progressed I started feeling a lot better.

Thursday my wife got tired of hearing me whine about not going and suggested we make a quick trip down to spend some time with my dad and his wife and take a few walks in hopes of finding a couple sheds. I had to work some Friday morning and I happened to get a text from Diablo asking if we were going to come down. Well it worked out that he was able to come over for a few hours and do some searching with us. Was great to finally meet you Taylor and Gunner too! LOL think our German Shepard didn't care for him (Gunner) much but that's ok she's a pain in my ass too for the most part. Anyways the kids had a great day walking, playing in the creek and riding around all day. Both my son Allen and daughter Jenna were able to come, along with Jenna's new boyfriend Robert (no wonder they found ulcers LOL)!! Taylor found one nice 4 pt shed and we ended up with 4, two from last year that were chewed pretty bad and two from this year a spike and a fork horn. My wife actually found the fork horn, her first ever shed antler. Sure wish I had a few more days for us to cover more ground but it's back to the grind. Still feeling pretty good after a lot of walking so hopefully it was all just an eye opener for me.

Glad you are feeling better and made the trip. Looks like it was productive. Sorry to hear you are dealing with boyfriends already. My daughter is 13. I am nervously awaiting those dreaded words.

Thanks Phil! Yeah to say I wasn't prepared for the boys is an understatement at first. I tried to be the tough dad and keep it from happening but quickly found that can turn things into sneaking and lying. This boy seems to be a pretty good kid, very polite and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Not an easy step to take on my part that's for sure. They just don't get any younger though.

Looks like you had a good time Chuck and found a few to boot.

Boyfriends, great memories. In my dreams I've killed many of them. Most that met me found me to be unbelievably intimidating. My step daughter hated me at times. I remember one hoodlum parked in front of the house and blew the horn to pick up my stepdaughter for a first date. I opened the front door and walked down to his rust bucket Cadillac. He asked was Tiffany ready. I told him she was ready to go out with a young gentleman and kindly let him know I didn't feel he fit the bill. I told him to drive around the block come knock on the door and just maybe I'd allow her to go somewhere with him. He turned out to be a pretty good guy, he just needed a little adult guidance.

Love the story Dick. For the longest time my wife and I resisted even the most remote opportunity for my daughter to date. I guess after all the arguments, grounding and feeling hated I started to understand that there is more going on these days with girls than I wanted to admit. Half of her friends dated, actual go out to movies or dinner without parents, when they were 11/12!! By 15 and a Sophomore in HS it was easy to see we were fighting a battle we could not win, especially when the families we kept pointing to that didn't allow dating either slowly allowed it to happen as well. This boy Robert did everything right when I first met him, at my daughter's HS dodgeball game. I walk up to sit with the family and he stands up and introduces himself and sticks his hand out with a very firm hand shake. Very polite and down to earth boy. Is he 'the one', I don't know but he's off to a good start.

Well my shed hunting thread gets an update!! My dad was out turkey hunting the other day and as he was sitting there looking around he spotted what he thought might be an antler off in the distance. Well, after he had a gobbler come in and he missed it he decided to walk over and take a look. He ended up finding the matched set from a buck both us and Diablo were looking for.......Pointdexter!! It just so happens that my son and I must have walked right past them as we walked down below where they laid.

Hey Chuck! That's awesome and now you know there's a good chance he's still living and you might get a chance again at him. How old do you or Taylor think he is?

I'm trying to figure it out on his age and he's either going to be a 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 year old deer this fall. Found what I believe were his 2 1/2 year sheds a year later 3 years ago now. Taylor found his right side a month or so ago from perhaps last year or even the year before and now from this past season we have his matched set.
