I know you guys have some sitting around. I have about 50 that I've either inherited or found and a few I've purchased. I went to the antique flea market at our fairgrounds today and scored two good ones for a steal.

The one on the left is a Whisky bottle from 1897. it's embossed.

"The Hayner Distilling Co.
Dayton
St. Louis
Atlanta
ST. Paul
Distillers.

Interresting thing about old bottles it was originally clear. The manufacturer put manganese dioxide in the glass to decolorize it to clear from the natural green seen on the bottle to the right. Many many decades of sun exposure polarized it to purple color as the manganese ions interact with the iron in the glass.

The green bottle on the right still has the original stopper and ring and was made by the Streator Bottle & Glass Company that was bought out by Anheuser Bush in 1901 and the name changed. So it dates 1881-1901. The thing about this bottle is it's not embossed with the product name, or a mold mark, and its a very well made bottle with little imperfections. I'm thinking it was a sample or demo bottle sent to beverage manufacturers. That would also explain why it was never opened and the cap didn't deteriorate.

Pretty cool. What else do you have that’s cool?

Be damn interesting to follow if you could find the time to do a piece when you get chances. I know you’re busy as hell, so when you get a chance type of thing with a little info.

My folks have some old glass around that they’ve pulled out of the river in the back yard. Most bottles and such are small in size, maybe old medication bottles or something. No clue, didn’t even realize you could search them or a market for them.

Oh I have a bunch buddy. I'll dig them out. I have an embalming fluid bottle from around 1920. Was made by ESCO and was one of a three-step process. Gave $1 for it at a goodwill. Seen em sell for about $45 on eBay. Not my picture but the same bottle. ESCO stands for Embalmers Supply Company and is still around today.

Pretty cool finds Joe.

Always fun finding old bottles around some of the old farm garbage dumps. Use to find old whiskey bottles and even a few cool looking cobalt bottles here and there.

Dug this up doing some excavation work at the old middle grounds railroad property in Toledo which is now middle grounds metropark. Old water bottle from Saratoga springs New York. Congress & Empire spring co. It was buried in old brick road pavers that they used for fill on the bank of the Maumee. It's from the 1870's and doesn't even have a chip in it lol!

Yeah I have seen that on American Pickers show of them buying old medication bottles. It was really cool. Alot of history to it.

I love old bottles, don’t know a bunch about them just like the way they look. I’ve ended up filling a few with wine corks and setting them around the house. The distilled water bottle and the turpentine bottle I got out of a barn in Piqua while helping a friend clean it out
