A while back it was common practice for all the Elmer Fudds who thought they were God's gift to all dog handlers of the world to abandon their less-than-steller performing pup in the wildlife area near here after the small game season. These critters would do what Mother Nature had programmed them to do since time began: pack up.

These packs would eventually establish a pecking order and roam the winter countryside until the coyotes and highways diminished their numbers. I seldom went into the woods here on our little piece of paradise without a firearm, and I never let the grandkids go out alone during the winter.

A friend who is into training rescue/service dogs told me maybe five or ten years back that the price of pups has become so high that dog owners, despite how dissatisfied they are with their pup, just can't afford to abandon it anymore, so they try to sell them instead.
