Fishing Down In The Crick!

This is the best, easiest, and funnest(if that’s a word)fishing to be had in my opinion! Every spot in Ohio has some kinda creek that can hold many type of bass species including the Largemouth and Smallmouth. You can catch 30 fish or more in the 1lb and less range, but every once in awhile you can get into one in the 2-3lb range or bigger! The best one I caught was in big Indian creek in southern Ohio that was 4 1/2lbs! It’s amazing to me sometimes how so little water can hold a big bass. I use a cast net at first to catch minnows and small bluegills, then when I have a couple dozen I’ll throw out the minnow trap while I use up the bait I caught to keep me up with fresh bait. After I get to a new hole I’ll throw the minnow trap out again. I repeat the process hole to hole to make sure I always have fresh bait! The bite is instant and you’ll catch every fish in that hole pretty much. Once the bite slows down you walk up or down the creek till you find another! Don’t underestimate a spot too just because you think the hole isn’t big enough! Today I spent about 2hrs and caught around 20 doing this. I caught most of the fish the size of the largemouth, then hooked into a real nice smallmouth that was maybe 2, 2 1/2lbs! It’s always fun to use small tackle as well! I had a 5ft ultra lite with a mini reel and 4lb test!

I’ve got one of those fun little creeks. Fishing used to be a lot better before the neighbor had his Jeep in the creek all the time. Ever try and free float Gulp crickets? A small bag of those with a couple of bare hooks will keep you busy for hours! Fits right in your pocket
