Hitting birds

My wife thinks I’m a weirdo for many of things. Hitting birds while driving just happens to be one of them. I hit 3 this weekend with her with me. She claims she’s never hit one, ever. 3 is a bit over my average, but I generally get at least one a week.

Is this not normal? I know I generally put on more miles than most. How many birds do y’all usually get while driving?

Barn swallow scared the crap out of her today when it smacked the windshield😂. So I got yelled at for that...🤔

I hit about one a year, maybe two. usually Doves or Sparrows. I did hit a Red Headed Woodpecker a few years ago about 400 yards from my driveway. it was dead AF, but Nancy went and tried to save it. women.

I bet that made a thud! I don’t think I’ve ever hit one of those.

not a big Pileated Woodpecker, a Red Headed woodpecker. about the size of a Blue Jay. was still a helluva thump at 50mph. glad it was the front end and not the windshield.

I’ll bail you out Dave. I hit birds all the dang time. Especially this time of year... the swallows are thick up here and the dumb bastards hang out on the road way too long.

I got a buzzard a couple of years ago. I had levi with me and he was laughing at himself for the noise he made before that thing hit the ground!

When I was stationed at Brokeback Mountain home I got two owls about 300 yards apart. We were at Strike Dam fishing for sturgeons all night and that sure woke me up.

A buddy of mine hit a red tailed hawk a few years ago while in a bucket truck. Miraculously it didn’t seem to be injured...just extremely pissed off when he pulled over to the side of the road and went to the back of the truck to check on it. Flapped around back there for a minute then flew out.
I’ve only hit small birds....about one every five years or so.

I could have hit a seagull today, let off the gas because that’s big enough to do some damage. I’ve hit a few birds over the years but it’s pretty rare.

So I’ve got one other person that does this regularly...

I should make fun of her because she hit a turkey in the windshield once.

I hit at least 1 bird a year. Last one I hit was a female pheasant in the wife's car less then 24hrs after purchase. The wife was not happy at all. Smacked it dead center of the grill and it knocked the ford emblem off.

Wife hit a flicker a couple years ago. She called me freaking out because she thought it was still stuck in the grill. Told her to go ahead and meet me 15 minutes up the road where I was working. Sure as shit it was still stuck in the grill. I walked over thinking I was going to pull a dead bird. Damn thing followed me with it's eyes as I walked up. Grabbed it by the break and worked it out a little. Grabbed it's body with the other hand. Worked it the rest of the way out. Tossed it into the air and watched it fly away like nothing happened.
