Alright, I’ve gotten two phone calls this morning about this. It kinda freaked me out last night but I didn’t put much thought into it. I don’t seen anything on the ODNr website either. Here’s the issue:

Tag say 18 digit number.

What they give you is a 6 digit alphanumeric code. (Numbers and letters for you crayon eaters)

I’m guessing our lovely leaders didn’t think to change anything more on the tag than the year. This is my guess and I feel comfortable that I did the right thing and gave the right advice out. If I think of it tomorrow I will contact ODNR and get confirmation. Or if someone has it, please post a link.

So don’t freak out that you don’t have all the numbers and now it has letters. We are all getting the same thing. No need to write as small as you can anymore😂.

Standard gov practice right here. This is the most maddening part of my job. Gov leadership doesnt talk to anyone outside of their circle jerk meetings so we find out about changes from the citizens that use whatever it might be. Bet ya anything the guys that update the actual tags never knew they had changed it, and the first call they got about it, the person that answered it didnt know either and had to go ask someone else. Majority of gov leadership wouldn't make it a week in the private sector.
Other than that, about damn time they changed it. 16 digits was a tad absurd. No need to contact them though, they did change it.

You mean to tell me our DNR didn't get things EXACTLY right before setting something forth in policy or regulation?!?

I got the 6 alphanumeric for my doe last weekend. Took my 2.5 seconds to say the hell with it and wrote it down. Figure if that's what I got and not the 18 digits then they can suck it lol. Wrote it down and screen cap it and called it a day lol.

Was I the first or second phone call? 😂😂😂

My buddy Shawn did the telecheck in and got the code you mentioned. 2 letters followed by 4 numbers. We both were like WTF??? Didn’t want to move the deer before getting it straightened out. Figured you got you doe last night so I’d ask you about it. Shawn looked around on the ODNR site and never saw anything about it.

I didn’t even have my phone out of my hand from hanging up with you and it rang again. So you were the first. Figured it was post worthy at that point. Amazing that the information isn’t out for people to know.

Looking at my tag again. I’m a liar that just lies to start shit. It doesn’t say 18 digit anymore. I just read it. It looks the same but it doesn’t say it.

Either way. Take note that things have changed and don’t worry about it.

Buncha jackwagons around here I tell ya! Lol

@J FYI you don't have to do shit prior to moving the deer. Move it all you want. You don't need a tag on it unless you are leaving the deer somewhere and you aren't right there with it. The temp tag law went bye-bye this season.

Haven’t even bought a deer tag, bought the 10 year hunting tag and probably won’t even get out until gun season. I’ll be reading up once it gets closer.

Our local wildlife guy was talking to a group of us about this and a few other changes last week. I haven’t shot anything yet but looking forward to not having to squeeze all those numbers on there again this year. Also the deer tags go up soon if they haven’t yet. I got mine two days ago and it was still 19.
