working on your mower. I have not been on this mower since last September. Nancy does most of the mowing after hunting season starts and mows leaves and pulls a cart around the yard until all the yard work is over for the year. this is the double pulley assembly that transfers power from the PTO belt to the deck drive belt.

that is a grade 8 lag screw with a 1" head. as you can see, there is not much left of the one bearing, and the bolt head is fucked. Now, before I let Nancy on it I looked over the mower, and it started right up. I checked the oil. added a few ounces since it was riding on the low mark on dipstick. Nancy gets on and makes it about halfway around the front yard perimeter and shuts off the mower. comes and tells me something big fell off of the mower. WTF?

this did not happen in the two minutes that the mower deck was engaged today. this has been not right for several mowings. no way this was not noticeable before today. I'll never know for sure what actually caused this, but one thing is for certain, women and power equipment do not mix well. the bolt was tight, had to use an impact wrench to remove it. maybe that top bearing just failed. maybe she ran over or into something. I fixed the exact same problem three years ago, but I didn't replace the pulley. I'm replacing it all this time. I friggin' hate fixing shit all the time. done with my rant now. I think it's 5 o'clock now...

My wife hits something bad every year or wraps something up and kills it, same response.....something just happened. Last year it was a huge log chain the county dropped while mowing side ditches next to us which sounded like a 12 gauge going of, but it was still something just happened...she wants to relearn to ride the 4wheeler due to the new 4 month vacation.....I'm reluctant

I'll give Nancy a pass. We have replaced our share of pulleys. Even the commercial ones let go after so long. Some of them make a noise like a whine or growl. Some have a subtle vibration that slowly gets worse. The guy running mower daily may not notice it. I jump on or my guys swap mowers and a different operator will pick up on the vibration or noise. I think we get accustomed to it if we ride it daily. When they let loose. . . They let loose.

Now log chains? Stumps? I won't give that a pass. You know dang well what happened.

My wife hasn't mowed the lawn since her parents made her do it as a kid. With 3 brothers. . .that wasn't often. I spoil that lady. It's tough being a trophy husband like me. I mean, like, it's a participation trophy. But it's a trophy. 😂

Lol, shit happens, great thread. Agree on the last minute oh hey something happened....and would ya look at that, it's just something that's gotta get fixed, not something to wait.

I won't let my wife near our mower with our current home in the woods , since 08😁. I in the meantime have killed 2 cheap big box stores John Deere decks in that timeframe, peppered our back siding with 3 nice holes and 1 broken window. I just hope I can sell it before I put one thru the sliding door😂

My wife went out and bought a mower without my approval. So she got to mow the lawn with it. 2 transmissions, multiple spindles and an emergency surgery later, I pay a guy $40 a week to mow the shit. Saving me money.
