After you’ve drawn back on a deer with traditional archery tackle, and you subconsciously set that mystical arrow free, there’s simply no better feeling in the world than watching those feathers disappear into perfect double-lung oblivion.

This morning’s action was really tough to beat. I filmed a 2.5 yr old buck work a scrape just 5 yards in front of me. Then watched as does got chased here and there and everywhere. On 3 separate occasions I was on my feet with bow in-hand, preparing to make a shot. It was exciting and chaotic to say the least.

Finally, a little before 9:00 a.m., this little doe fawn made her way into one of my shooting lanes as she searched for her momma. I made the slightest little “meh” to stop her broadside at 7 yards from the base of my tree. I barely remember getting my fingers to their anchor point. All I recollect is my eyes burning a hole through the side of that deer, and watching my arrow bury right where I was looking. It’s the most pure and satisfying thing you can imagine, and finding the words to present a worthy description is nearly impossible. If you’ve never fist-pumped as hard as you can after shooting a doe fawn, I feel bad for you... You really should try shooting one with a recurve or a longbow. It’s pure euphoria.
