Who here buys their groceries online or through a mobile app?

I just experienced it this morning with one of our local Kroger stores. Figured I'd do my wife a favor and get groceries early today while she slept in. So yesterday I downloaded the Kroger app and made my order. Never done it before, but I've always been grocery-curious... and I'm a sucker for a solid mobile app platform. It only took me about 10 minutes to line up everything I wanted, which was about $200 total. My son and I drove over this morning to make the pickup and it couldn't have been any easier. I hit the "I am here" button when we arrived and entered my parking spot number. Within two minutes, a man comes out to the van with a cart loaded with groceries. Everything on the order was correct and I even scored an extra gallon of Arnold Palmer... winning. Not going to lie - I felt like a lazy ass when I pulled into the parking lot. But I could see myself getting used to this shopping method. I normally dislike going into grocery stores for the most part. If it weren't for the occasional MILF sighting or hot and flirty cashier, the other dipshits and degenerates would be pretty unbearable.

I'm in the same boat. never tried it but I may just pull the trigger. Thanks for the info....Kroger's been my go to not by choice but out of convenience. Did you get produce? Curious if they just grab the most pathetic looking piece.

I sure did. I bought cucumbers, romaine hearts, carrots, tomatoes, bananas, and a couple watermelons. I had reservations about this too... But, surprisingly, all of the produce I received looks great. I will say this, though... I chose a Kroger that was a little bit further from home, but is one that gave me more "confidence" in the employees working there. That may or may not have had something to do with the quality of the items picked. We'll see how things go at other stores.

My wife does it through Kroger if it's a big list. Costco stuff is ordered online as well. The only problem we have encountered with the Kroger click list, substitutions for "out of stock" items. We've had items substituted and then I've physically gone in the store and found plenty of it. Not a huge deal, but can be aggravating if it was something planned for dinner.

I’ve never used the service but have to say it’s inconvenient being on the other side of the coin. The good parking spots were reserved for people who use this service so now I have to park farther from the store….also, while shopping, the workers there have huge carts and go up and down the aisles gathering the food items for the people who use the service…they’ll block the entire aisle and force you to go the long way around…and I also told my wife I was surprised at the number of carts scattered throughout the grocery section…had to be at least 25 huge carts. It’s probably going to force me to shop during the non peak hours to avoid all of this extra traffic in the store.

Welcome to the day when your handlers know EVERYTHING about you... Once the electronic money is fully in place, complete with a use by date and a limit to how far you can travel to use it, then the limitation on what you can buy will be imposed. These things are already pretty much in place in China for example. Google 'Social Credit Score' then play around with 'myLife.com' and see just how tight the noose has been drawn. Anyone for total behavioral slavery?

But to your question? Amazingly convenient! But then so is peanut butter in the rat trap...

I haven't encountered this, personally, but I could see this being an issue. Solid opposing perspective.

tried it, no thank you. hard pass for me. I don't like the idea of more people touching my groceries than is absolutely necessary, and I prefer to select my own produce for obvious reasons. plus, I like paying cash for my groceries. I hate grocery shopping, but I'm going to keep doing it myself.

Actually, I don’t think it results in more people touching your groceries. The “picker” takes the place of the cashier and the bagger, so it’s potentially less touching. Unless you normally self-checkout when you get your groceries… in that case, I understand. And by not entering the store, you’ve eliminated any indirect touching and exposure to other shoppers.

yes, but I don't get to watch the picker gathering up my food like I get to see the cashier ringing it up. my issue isn't about germs. although people are pigs, it's more of an OCD thing. sort of like the difference between butchering my own venison as opposed to taking it to a reputable processor. just not my style. I would go hungry before I used a third party courier to deliver food to my door, like GrubHub or whatever.

I do all our grocery shopping and despite the time it would save me, I'm opposed to using it. I share Jamie's opinion about it terms of OCD, which is really my biggest issue. I like to control which produce I choose, which deals I take part in (I'd rather walk the store than scroll the app), and like Fury, I see the clutter in the store and don't want to contribute to it. I've never used it and likey never will.

We don’t use it, but like stated we deal with the crazies who pull the orders…. They are doing a job, they’re paying attention too the detail of their order and mostly oblivious too their surroundings…. My kids have used it and seem too like. It started when my daughter and SIL both had Covid and they had too quarantine….

Wife uses it, I hate it. Another way to split America. No more bumping into people or being social. It won't be long and we won't even be waving at neighbors anymore.

My wife has used the WM app since they initially piloted it. I will never again walk the isles of a grocery store dealing with fucktards to collect my own groceries. The app has the previous orders and commonly ordered items and all she has to do is add and remove what we want. There have been a couple of instances where produce wasn't up to par or a can was dented or chips crushed but she just requests the refund on the app and it's done. We've never had a problem using it, just pull up and let them know what spot via the app and out they come. Screw hunting through a store for shit they're always moving around then waiting in a line to scan my own groceries. In and out in 10 minutes.

I had to get on my wife when we moved here because she was never waiving at people on the road. Everyone does the little finger flick on the wheel waive on our roads no matter if you know them or not. It could be the first time you've ever driven the road and people will waive. She was like "I don't know them" I had to explain that a community extends beyond the people you know, you may not know them personally but drive these roads enough and you'll know each others cars. So when you have a flat and they roll up do you want them to say "Hey that's the nice woman that I waive at" Or "Thats the stuckup bitch that never waives". A big ass hurricane comes and there are no strangers, community and everyone leaning on their fellow man is all we'll have"

Same here, minus the hurricane. Any other natural disaster or even someone falling off a ladder. Community does what it does. I believe the grocery store plays a part in that.

No matter what store I’m in, I refuse to use the self check out. That used to be someone’s job and if they want me to do someone else’s job, they can pay me for it. I’ll wait in a line that’s ten people deep before using a self checkout lane.
