Good morning folks. Some of you may remember me, a lot of new faces around here. I've been pretty busy with my life and haven't been hanging out here, but decided now was a good time to come back into the circle. (I'm still plenty busy, but that's a different story.)

One of the big reasons I chose to come back is that I teach high school history at Medina High School and just got approval from the student council to start an Outdoors Club for my students. I'm hoping to be able to reach out and make some connections with as many people as possible, and I figured what better place? I'm looking forward to getting back in the mix.

I’ve seen the threads that you’ve started and wondered what happened. Welcome back.

Outdoors club for what?

Fishing
Hunting
Plants
Aquatic life
Preserving natural things
Camping
Erosion
Building shelters
Survival
Living off the land (edible plants)
Managing evasive species
First aid
Reading maps and landscape
All of the above and then some

One year coarse or is this something they can continue education with over the 4 years? Kinda like a glorified boys scouts is what I have in my mind.

It's an extracurricular voluntary student club. Here's the mission statement from the club Constitution.

"Article II- Mission
Section 1 The mission of the Medina Outdoors Club shall be to:

promote student participation in outdoor recreation.

increase availability and access to outdoor recreation.

help to conserve and protect our community’s wild places.

educate the community about the positive impact of hunting and fishing on wildlife populations.

raise awareness of critical environmental issues at the local, state, and national level.

give back to our community through our outdoor passions.

Section 2 All events, activities, and meetings of the Medina Outdoors Club shall be organized with the expressed purpose of meeting at least one of the aforementioned mission statements."

I tried to attach the whole thing too.

That’s great! You could also reach out to the ODNR and possibly have a wildlife biologist give a lecture, maybe assist in getting the kids their hunting/fishing licenses. After school trips to go fishing, the archery range, etc. many possibilities. Good luck with this endeavor.

Welcome back buddy. It's been a looooooong time. Looking at your last post it was in 2011. Great to have you back and good luck with your outdoor club. If there's anything we can do don't hesitate to ask.

My mind has been racing with the opportunities I want to provide to these kids. I've already been talking to Sean at the Sportsmen's Alliance about working with them. And the DNR will definitely be getting contacted. I'm thinking hunter's ed, wild game dinners, hunting and fishing outings, shooting sports, trail clean-ups, everything.

Up Nort
My niece in Minnesota is in an outdoor sciences class. It's not a club, but a dedicated credit course.
They have:
Visited a fishery
Tied flies and jigs
Built a fishing rod, completely
Gone fishing
Butchered a deer
Taxidermy
Archery
I'll ask her what else she's done.
