At the end of this year TheOhioOutdoors will no longer support the use of Tapatalk to access the forum. While we understand this may be a change for some of our users we hope that you will understand the predicament that Tapatalk's practices have placed us in. We have worked diligently to provide a very mobile friendly and feature rich web version of TOO for your use. If you haven't given the mobile responsive website a try go ahead and give it a shot.

The reasons for this decision are as follows.

1. Tapatalk displays advertisements to our members that TOO has zero control over. Aka it spams our members.

2. Tapatalk does not allow forum owners to disable the spam signature "Posted from my ____ Using_Tapatalk."

3. Tapatalk forces app banners and popups to members who do not use their App. As a site owner, we do not have the ability to turn this off.

4. Tapatalk forces images uploaded in their app to tapatalks servers and not TOO. This means that when Tapatalk frees up space on their servers they delete your content on TOO. This leaves threads full of holes without the original pictures.

5. Tapatalk hijacks links from search results and automatically opens them in their app if you have it installed.

Some of these items are configurable providing we pay tapatalk a yearly or monthly ransom that is ever increasing. In the 9 years that we've allowed Tapatalk on TOO their business practices have become increasingly predatory towards site owners; to the point that the software is practically a ransomeware virus. They purposefully implement features that heavily promote their app and advertise unless we pay them an ever-increasing fee. Unfortunately, we've had enough.

Understanding that this is a big change, and to prevent the blatant app spam from tapatalk towards our non tapatalk members, we will be paying their ransom until December 31st of this year. At that time Tapatalk will be removed from availability. We understand that some of our members may not be thrilled with this decision, we ask that you please understand that we've allowed this to go on long enough and there doesn't seem to be an end to tapatalks malevolent behavior. Our number one goal at TOO is to provide you the best experience and most feature rich environment possible while you're here, unfortunately, Tapatalk due to it's business practices is vastly overstaying it's welcome.

Thank you.

I talked to the guy that owned that Alaska website that shut down. This was the reason he shut it down, just wasn’t cost effective anymore when he could just run a FB account. I’d rather see you cut ties with outside marketers and keep the sight running. I also don’t like the idea of having it filled with ads to pay the ransom. Good call, I like it!

Everyone has their hand in the cookie jar it seems. Which I don't particularly mind but the aggressive nature of Tapatalks business practices has gotten worse and worse over the years. We pride ourselves with not inundating you guys with ads and run a razor-thin margin to pay the bills. It seems like Tapatalk has focused on developing ways to make it painful for site admins in an effort to extort higher fees to turn those off. Knowing that we don't want to disappoint our users they use this to their advantage. While forums have lost some members to Facebook by in large they are the members that you don't really want anyway. The mindless drivel, ignorant posts, people who are only there to show off and brag etc. Just spend 10 minutes reading any of those Facebook posts and you'll quickly realize the benefit of places like TOO. Another huge benefit that forums provide is searchable content. While Facebook groups are able to be located on Google the content is not indexed by search engines this is because the content is largely worthless and of little knowledge value, for that there are forums.

I think you should've taken a collection from Tapatalk users to pay this Fuckin ransom.

Not their fault. Tapatalk started out as free for both users and forum owners and didn't have all this crap. Then they started charging app users to remove ads. When that didn't really work they went back to a free app but put things in place to extort forum owners.

We will cover the cost until December and be done with Tapatalk. Over time it has only gotten worse and has reached a level of pure extortion. It wouldn't be right for us to turn around and extort our users in return.

I used it for quite a few years, never any issues. I was a paid subscriber to keep the ads at bay. This year had an issue and they wanted my password to investigate it.... Fugg off and deleted it.....

Mobile app works just fine for me....

I guess I'll need to take a look at the mobile app. Thanks for the heads up.

Not an app but a responsive mobile browser version. Way more robust than tapatalk. Since the forum software upgrade in March about 50% of the users who browsed via tapatalk have ditched the app in favor of the mobile web version. So it must be worth it to them.
