I usually go with a straight white salt block but I know a lot of guys here are big fans of Trophy Rock. I noticed at the local TSC yesterday they have 30 lb bags of Trophy Rock Four65. Which is basically crushed up trophy rock about the size of pea gravel. Lots of marketing on the bag but to me it appeared someone found a way to market the leftover waste from mining and packaging 12 lb trophy rocks. The price was attractive at $15 for 30lbs vs $15 for a 12 lb solid rock. Anyone ever use it?

Interesting, I’d imagine it’d have the same effect? In theory at least...
I would guess so. I'm sure it melts down in the soil quicker being chunks and powder so it may be good for establishing new sites or giving old ones a big boost. I picked up a bag of it and put about 10lbs worth in an old mineral site. We'll see.

Joe i use to use it several years ago,the deer like it but really i think they like most any mineral ya put down.
Now i just buy the #50 bags of trace mineral at tsc along with the #50 trace mineral blocks, have lots of deer hitting my sites and save alot of money at the same time.

I've used it. But haven't seen much difference from the cheaper trace mineral blocks. I've gotten a few of those bags in the past and have preferred the blocks since they don't create pits so fast. Block I get us 50# and less than $10. Pretty much identical to a trophy rock in contents just not marketed for deer hunters.

Hot damn, 1,500 post in week! You’ve been busy😂.

I agreed about those blocks, I generally bust them up to create a bigger area. The wife got me some trophy rocks last year and they seem to melt away, I prefer to see some block. I understand that’s what they do, I just prefer to see a little something. Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling.

I used it a few years ago when trophy rocks were relatively cheap. Like Boarhead said, they'll hit almost anything you lay out that has salt in it. So I'll stick to buying 50# bags and blocks, $15 will get me enough to do about 5 mineral sites.

I made a stump (log stood on end. Has angle iron drove in the ground and 3 1/2" screws to hold it all in place.) Cut a "bowl" in the top to hold the rock. Also added a slit to let water out. Air getting in, rock will last 3+ months....some up to 5 months. Deer are constantly licking the stump.
