What to do?

Evening teal hunted this evening, shot a few birds, but some yayhoos were shooting after hours as we were packing up. Sadly, some other hunter thought it was me and my buddy. He left a note on my car saying he reported my plates to the DNR. Any idea what to do here? I don’t blame him for reporting someone he thought was shooting after hours, but I also don’t want a DNR officer knocking on my door in the morning thinking it was me. Any help would be great!

Contact your local wild life officer via email, you know he will more then likely be contacting you.
Be brief but tonthe point andnleave your contact info so he can get in touch with you vs having to look you up in the system.

Let us know how it goes.

I agree with J. Be the first to reach out.

As for your legal risk there's nothing the warden can do as he didn't witness it and you're obviously not going to confess.

I’ve had them show up at my house over a FB post...I’d guess it was something similar to your story that made them look at my page. They have a job to do, if you did nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about.

Write a report on the events of that evening and file it. Could be years before you hear a word about it, if ever.

I wouldn't bother doing anything at this point. You can't get a ticket without the GW witnessing it happening, and you won't be doing anything wrong if he sets up on you undercover.... So there's nothing to worry about.

Never updated you guys on how it went, so I apologize, but I did end up emailing my local Wildlife officer and he was awesome about it. Told me not to worry at all and appreciated me clearing it up. We have since become buddies. Good advice on you guys! And for you guys wondering, he was not planning on following up on it since there have been a lot of reports in the area of it, and they cannot do much against it unless they were there.
