Wild Bird Seed for bait/attractant?

I ran into a guy in a Tractor Supply store with a flat cart and he had 8 bags of Wild Bird Seed, on the cart. I asked if he had a lot of bird feeders. He said he had a lot of success attracting deer with the stuff. He said it obviously attracts birds and a few squirrels, but the deer seem to love it.

Anyone every use Wild Bird Seed for this purpose...or ever heard of it being used?

I don't bother with pouring bait on the ground, but I killed a big nanny doe in late January 2010 that had a belly full of black oiled sunflower seed and triplets in her uterus. only one place to get those in Ohio that time of year. deer like birdseed.

When the snow gets high enough and the deer can reach my bird feeder, they'll clean it out over night. The guy might be on to something.

I was wondering that too. Seems like little 10 pound bags are like 5 bucks or something? Maybe it’s cheaper in bulk or something ive never bought it.

Birdseed is more expensive from my observation.

Eagle seed makes a soybean mix with sunflowers that the beans use as structure, they may produce seeds.

Corn is as $3.67/bushel for dec 2018 futures. The lowest avg sunflower seed price in the last two months (Goodland, KS) has been $16.81 per cwt (hundred lbs). So you have corn at $.07/lb and seed at $.17/lb. That’s before it getting marked up from wherever you buy it from.

I bought a 20 lb. bag of Wild Bird Seed at Meijer for $5.99. I may be going back for a couple more bags.
I've not priced corn.

We get 1000# for $95. Shelled corn at a feed mill.

Feed mill ?? What's that ? lol. As often as I'm at these stores, it's no biggie to get a bag here & there for my purposes.

You can get bird seed at the mill... You can also buy it just about anywhere and it doesn’t take much to go a good ways.
